How The Craziest Nail Art At New York Fashion Week Comes To Life

02/20/2015 05:43 pm ET | Updated Feb 20, 2015

During New York Fashion Week, CND Nails co-founder and style director Jan Arnold had one request: that the models keep their hands out of their pockets. Although nails are usually obscured by the clothes themselves, Arnold and her team believe that hands are meant to be seen on the runway.

CND created custom nail looks this week for Opening Ceremony, Libertine and The Blonds. In the past, CND has molded small grenades onto fingernails and they've made tips into melted drops of candle wax.

This season, CND turned up the heat. Artists decoupaged while photo collages onto nails at Opening Ceremony, and used materials including gold chains and shrapnel metal at Libertine and The Blonds. Arnold said that the nail designs took about 500 hours to create for each designer.

HuffPost Style got a behind-the-scenes look at the meticulous process behind CND's most outrageous nails. Watch the video above and tell us your favorite look in the comments below.
