In the 50 years since Malcolm X's assassination, there has been an enduring want to find out more about the man who inspired so much love, so much inspiration, so much change and, unfortunately, so much hate. A half century after his death, Malcolm's daughter, Ilyasah Shabazz, talked to HuffPost Live about her new book, X: A Novel, which delves into who her father really was.
During an interview with HuffPost Live, Shabazz, who wasn't even three when her father was killed, told host Marc Lamont Hill that the book focuses on the civil rights icon's adolescent years, and how that period of his life ultimately shaped his drive and desire to spark change in the world.
"He loved his people. He loved his country. He sacrificed his life," Shabazz said. "He was just in his 20s when the world would learn of him. He was only in his 30s when he was killed. He was a man of great compassion and impeccable integrity."
Shabazz also went on to add what Malcolm wanted, and how that still applies today as racial tensions continue to be an issue in today's America.
"My father was seeking the oneness of humanity," she said. "I think there are many young people now who are looking more into his work and carrying it forward."
