William Shatner Fires Back At Critics After Missing Leonard Nimoy's Funeral

William Shatner is facing some backlash since announcing that he could not attend Leonard Nimoy's funeral because of a commitment he made to a charity event in Florida. After the New York Daily News labeled Shatner "Captain Jerk" on its front page and others insisted that Shatner could have attended both events, the 83-year-old took to Twitter to fire back at his critics:

The actor invited his 2.11 million Twitter followers to remember Leonard Nimoy with a Twitter discussion on Sunday. He also released a statement expressing his grief. "I loved [Nimoy] like a brother," Shatner said. "We will all miss his humor, his talent, and his capacity to love."

Shatner and Nimoy starred as Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, respectively, on the "Star Trek" television series and in multiple feature films together. Nimoy died Friday at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 83.
