Thanks to Ikea, it seems like the concept of a "smart house" is getting even smarter. No longer will you have to reach for a cord or trip over a charger, pretty soon -- you'll be able to just charge your phone with your furniture.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Ikea recently partnered with Wireless Power Consortium to develop tables, desks and lamps with chargers inside the furniture. The new line will come out April 15 in Europe and North America, and will integrate WPC's Qi wireless technology into the furniture.
The smart furniture will cost a bit extra (about $22 more), but the hassle of not having to find (or fight) for a charger will make it well worth it. If you'd like to put one of the devices into existing desks or tables, WSJ said that charging kits will also be available for around $33.
The downside? The chargers appear to work for everything except some models of iPhones. Until the furniture retailer figures out how to solve that little problem, we're just going to keep turning Ikea chairs into awesome sleds for the rest of winter.
