Authorities in Florida are at a Duval County landfill Wednesday, searching for clues in the disappearance of Brittany Foote. The 22-year-old woman is missing and feared slain.
"We are actively investigating the disappearance and potential murder of Brittany Foote," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Melissa Bujeda told The Florida Times-Union.
According to police, the search is being conducted at the Trail Ridge Landfill, a 977 acre site in Baldwin that receives approximately 3,000 tons of waste daily from residential and commercial customers.
Authorities have not said what prompted the search. Calls for comment from HuffPost were not returned by the sheriff's office Wednesday.
Foote, who moved to Florida from Maryland last summer, was last seen on March 18. She was reportedly living with her boyfriend, 29-year-old Courtney Lamar Davis.
"I know her boyfriend was in the military and he was stationed here and that's why she moved down here," Foote's friend, Suzetta Christensen, told News4jax.com.
According to Actionnewsjax.com, a Courtney Davis has been in a Duval County jail since March 27, on a charge of possession of a weapon or ammunition by an out-of-state felon. However, that person is not facing any charges related to Foote's disappearance.
News4jax.com reported Foote's family believes Davis may know where she is.
"[Courtney's] cousin claimed Brittany and Courtney were arguing and he heard two gunshots in the bedroom," a member of Foote’s family told the news station.
Authorities have yet to confirm any details surrounding Foote's disappearance and have not named any suspects or persons of interest in the case.
"I can't sleep," Christensen told News4jax.com. "I can't even do anything."
Anyone with information on Brittany Foote's whereabouts is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at (904) 630-0500.
