NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar underwent quadruple coronary bypass surgery this week, Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center announced Friday. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Abdul-Jabbar, a six-time NBA champion and six-time NBA MVP, had the surgery on April 16 after he was admitted with cardiovascular disease, the hospital said.

"He asks that you keep him in your thoughts and, most importantly, cherish and live each day to its fullest," the statement said. He is 68 years old.
