Dr. Christiane Northrup Explains Why Surrounding Yourself With Positive People Is 'Crucial' To Your Health

Why Surrounding Yourself With Positive People Is 'Crucial' To Your Health

Take a good look at the people you surround yourself with every day. Are they happy, positive people who make healthy life choices? Or naysayers who drain the energy from the room and drag you down? Not only is it good for our mental health to surround ourselves with positive people, but it's also vital to our physical health, according to progressive women's health expert Dr. Christiane Northrup.

In this clip from an upcoming episode of "Super Soul Sunday," Northrup, a board-certified obstetrician who passionately believes in the spiritual side of healing, discusses how other people have a direct impact of our physical well-being.

"How important is it for us to surround ourselves with people who are going to bring good energy to us?" Oprah asks.

"It's crucial," Northrup says.

She goes on to say that research has shown that people are inspired to make good choices when they see others doing the same. "There's a lot of scientific studies on this, now, Oprah, that one person who stops smoking actually influences people at four degrees of separation," Northrup says. "The sort of social network research is astounding."

Just talking about the healthy choices people are making can be a powerful motivator. "You say, 'Oh, wow. You should see their biceps, they started weight training.'" Northrup says. "And then they tell someone. And it gets across the country really fast."

"You see, health is contagious," Northrup says. "We're always thinking in terms of disease is contagious. Health, agelessness, is contagious."

"Super Soul Sunday"
