Stephen Curry Breaks Down While Thanking Dad During MVP Speech

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors broke down on Monday while thanking his father during his acceptance speech for winning the 2014-2015 NBA MVP.

“To be able to follow in your footsteps, it means a lot to me,” Curry said, choking up. “This is special. I’m really proud of what you were able to do in your career and I don’t take that for granted at all.”

Dell Curry played in the NBA from 1986 until 2002, just a few years before Stephen would start his own basketball career, in 2009, with the Warriors. Both are known as two of the best three-point shooters of their respective generations.

“Just who you are -- you made it OK to have a family at my age when I started to know that if you take care of your business, you’ll be alright,” the younger Curry said Monday.

Curry also took the time to thank running mate Klay Thompson during the speech. "Hopefully we have a long future together," he told Thompson. "We can do some special things -- hopefully be the best backcourt to ever play."
