Ehab Al Shihabi will be replaced as CEO of Al Jazeera America, the network announced on Wednesday. He will remain at the company as chief operating officer.
Al Shihabi has been at the helm of Al Jazeera America since the network launched in 2013, but has faced scrutiny amid the recent resignations of three high-ranking executives and a wrongful termination lawsuit from a former employee.
The network has also suffered a great deal in the ratings. As The New York Times reported, it only brings in about 30,000 viewers per night. The network recently canceled two shows and laid off dozens of employees, but has still struggled to turn a profit.
Al Anstey, who has served as managing director of Al Jazeera English, will become the network's top boss.
