A man in a Captain America T-shirt became a real-life hero in North Carolina on Sunday when he rescued two people from a burning car.
And as it turns out, he's a real-life Captain America, too -- because the hero in question is U.S. Army Capt. Steve Voglezon, who was on the way to the mall when he came upon the scene of a head-on collision.
Video shows smoke and fire, and an explosion can be heard from one of the vehicles. Inside the other vehicle were two people.
"They were trapped in there," Everett Bacon, who lives near the scene and brought fire extinguishers to help fight the blaze, told WNCN. "The windows were up. The doors were locked."
That's when "Captain American" took action.
"I grabbed one of the fire extinguishers and we smashed out on the back window and the driver's side window... There wasn’t a real plan, I just had tunnel vision,” Voglezon told WSOC-TV.
Video shows him pulling 67-year-old William Thompson from the wreck. Then, after someone yells "there's somebody still in the car!" he returns to rescue 63-year-old Kathleen Thompson.

Voglezon credited his Army experience for his life-saving reaction.
“If I had not been a soldier, I would not have known what to do," he told ABC News. "The Army has helped a lot."
The driver of the other vehicle, 59-year-old Mark Ricketts, was cited for going left of center, according to WTVD. All three crash victims were hospitalized.
Though Voglezon is getting all the attention, the soldier gave credit to everyone else who was out there at the accident scene.
“I was just at the right place at the right time,” he told ABC. “People do this every day at the fire department. I wasn’t alone out there, there were at least 10 of us in the community working together."
WTVD reports that Voglezon has been nominated for a Soldier's Medal for the rescue.
