The University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) will announce the return of their football program on Monday, according to ESPN.
Last December, UAB president Ray Watts had declared that he would disband football, rifle and women's bowling teams, citing troubling financial projections for the athletic department. The decision was then met with substantial public outcry from shocked fans and students, who in response demanded more transparency behind UAB's athletic operations in "Free UAB" protests.
A formal announcement from UAB is expected at 4 p.m. Monday.
