Jeb Bush is trying to distance himself from his brother, former President George W. Bush, ahead of his expected presidential campaign announcement this week.
In an interview with CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union," which aired Sunday, the former Florida governor said he is his own person. "Jeb is different from George," Bush said. "Jeb is who he is. My life story is different."
Bush added: "I don't have to disassociate myself from my family. I love them. But I know that for me to be successful, I'm going to have to show my heart and tell my story."
Bush, who is expected to announce his presidential campaign on Monday, dropped his last name entirely from the campaign logo he tweeted out on Sunday.
According to HuffPost Pollster, Bush is trailing Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker by a small margin in the GOP primary polls. Bush said he knows that in order to separate himself from the already crowded GOP field, he will have to reveal more about himself -- which will not be easy for him.
"It's something that took a little getting used to, to be able to show my heart," Bush said. "I'm kind of introverted, but it's important to do."
Bush said what separates him from his family and from other candidates is that he's been "tempered by life."
"I've made tough decisions," he said. "I have a life experience that's full of warts and full of successes. It's something that I think has been lacking in the presidency, is someone who's been tempered by life."
