Fearless Female Surfers Dominated Fiji's Huge Waves

This year, the newly rebranded World Surf League promised more respect and equality for its professional women's division -- a division that was notoriously and unfairly put on the back burner in the past with lower prize purses and less favorable conditions.

"It makes me feel like they believe in us," three-time world champion Carissa Moore told The Huffington Post of the changes.

But as the recent Fiji Women's Pro contest proved, these fearless athletes had nothing to prove.

During the week-long competition, the world's best female surfers dominated 10- to 15-foot surf like it was no big deal, with 24-year-old Sally Fitzgibbons taking first place even after she busted an eardrum during a second round wipeout.
