June 24 marks the momentous occasion of Mindy Kaling's birth -- and the perfect excuse to bask in her wisdom.

It's been a notable year for Ms. Kaling. Her brilliant tweets basically won everything, and she broke the Internet with her "Wreath Witherspoon."

Kaling has always been open about what it's like to be a woman on television -- specifically a woman of color -- and how she handles criticism of her appearance. "I definitely get hurt when people say mean things about my body," she told Good Housekeeping. "But it's not the most important thing in my life."
