Astronaut's Video Of Northern Lights From Space Is Absolutely Stunning

Talk about a light show!

Scott Kelly, a NASA astronaut now in the midst of a one-year mission aboard the International Space Station, has recorded an amazing video of the Northern Lights (above).

Also known as the Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights are usually visible only near the Earth's North Pole. But the lights Kelly captured on video Monday night extend all the way down to the American South--and were particularly bright. That's because the solar storm that triggered the lights was unusually intense, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration classifying it as "severe."

But don't worry. Although solar storms have been known to disrupt radio signals, there have been no reports of outages in connection with this storm.
