What's The Real Motive Behind Saudi Arabia's Interest In Solar Power?

Saudi Arabia, a country synonymous with oil, is looking to invest in solar power, but The Atlantic's Jeffrey Ball is dubious of the motives behind that. In a new report, Ball argues the country's interest in solar energy is more selfish than simply being eco-friendly. Saudi Arabia's electricity is produced largely through burning oil, an extremely inefficient and expensive means to an end. Ball says that rather than working toward becoming environmentalists, the country is simply using solar to subsidize costs at home and maximize profits abroad. Watch Ball explain his take on the situation to HuffPost Live's Marc Lamont Hill in the video above.
