Dolphin Jumps In Boat, Breaking Woman's Ankles And Leaving A Bloody Mess

Freak Dolphin Accident Leaves Woman With Two Broken Ankles

A Southern California woman is recovering after a freak accident with a dolphin left her with two broken ankles.

Chrissie Frickman, her husband and their two children were watching dolphins during a June 21 outing on their boat when one leaped aboard and landed on her, reported The Orange County Register.

The 350-pound dolphin knocked Frickman over and smacked into the couple's daughter, husband Dirk Frickman told the paper. He pulled his wife out from under the dolphin and, with no other options, radioed ahead to the harbor patrol that they were coming in for help.

The animal was cut up from the incident, but remained alive. “It’s kickin’ and bangin’ and smackin’ and once it did, it cut up its nose and got a few cuts on its tail, and as it shimmied its way around the boat, you know, the blood just started spattering everywhere,” Dirk Frickman told Los Angeles CBS affiliate KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO.

The family sped ashore and dock workers were able to lift the animal out of the blood-soaked boat with a rope and release it back into the water.

“She swam away rather quickly,” Dirk Frickman said.

A dolphin sprained a woman's ankle in Florida in March 2011 when it jumped into a boat. A Canadian tourist in Mexico was killed earlier this year when a whale landed on a tour boat.
