This Is Why You're Breaking Out

Take a nap. Your skin depends on it.

While there are many factors that can sprout pimples far and wide across your beautiful skin, luckily all is not lost.

There are five common culprits, as explained in this below video from Buzz60, all easily beatable if you just take a few small steps:

1. Keep your phone off your face: Bacteria and oils stick to your ever-widening smartphone screens and get rubbed onto your skin, clogging up your pores when you talk into the phone. Regularly disinfect it with wipes or, better yet, opt for headphones that have a microphone to make your calls.

2. Stock up on vitamins: Studies show that vitamin D -- a nutrient only available from the sun, food or supplements -- is crucial for healthy skin. A deficiency could make you more vulnerable to infection and skin issues, so get your fix by going outside (20 to 25 minutes is all you need) or by eating more fatty fish, eggs, and vitamin D milk, of course.

3. Avoid sugar: When sugar-rich foods (or food with a high glycemic index that rapidly convert to sugar) are digested, the sugar permanently attaches to the collagen in your skin -- a process called glycation -- which can manifest itself right there on your skin.

4. & 5. Sleep more, stress less: When you don't sleep enough, you're prone to higher levels of anxiety -- and your body produces more cortisol (als0 known as the stress hormone). It breaks down your skin's collagen and produces more oil, too.
