Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) isn’t the spouse of Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), but one flight attendant just didn’t believe that.
In an interview with HuffPost Live on Thursday, Klobuchar said that after Franken won his Senate seat in 2009, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) sat her down and said, "It’s not easy having your other senator being a celebrity." They both had experience -- Schumer’s fellow senator was Hillary Clinton, and Durbin’s was Barack Obama.
Klobuchar said she experienced that celebrity firsthand while on an airplane with Franken.
"One day Franken and I get on a plane bound for Minnesota, full of Minnesotans but with a Southern based flight crew. The flight attendant announces, 'Everyone, we have celebrities on the plane, Mr. and Mrs. Franken,'" Klobuchar said.
Klobuchar said the whole plane started laughing because she -- not Franken's wife -- was accompanying the senator on the plane.
“No, no, she’s the other senator. She’s not my wife," Franken told the flight attendant.
“How cool is that, husband and wife senators,” the flight attendant replied.
Klobuchar was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006 and has been married to law professor John Bessler for over 20 years.
