Hillary Clinton: Claim That I Started The Birther Movement Is 'So Ludicrous'

She said any talk of Obama being born outside the U.S. is "totally untrue."

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton said Wednesday that the idea she started the birther movement, which questions the validity of President Barack Obama's American birth certificate, is "so ludicrous."

After CNN's Don Lemon asked Clinton about claims she started the movement in a phone interview, Clinton said any rumors about Obama's U.S. citizenship are "totally untrue."

"This is such a bad example of what's wrong with instantaneous reactions and Americans getting all worked up and people feeding prejudice and paranoia, like Donald Trump," Clinton said.

She brushed off the allegations from some people that she originated the rumor that Obama was born outside the U.S., saying she's been "blamed for nearly everything."

The nonpartisan site FactCheck.org has concluded "there is no evidence that Clinton or her campaign had anything to do" with the origins of the birther conspiracy.
