CC Sabathia Checks Himself Into Alcohol Rehab Center

The Yankees pitcher will not participate in the playoffs.

New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia announced in a statement that he's checking himself into an alcohol rehab center on Monday and will not pitch in the postseason.

Here is Sabathia's statement in its entirety:

"I love baseball and I love my teammates like brothers, and I am also fully aware that I am leaving at a time when we should all be coming together for one last push toward the World Series," Sabathia's statement said. "It hurts me deeply to do this now, but I owe it to myself and to my family to get myself right. I want to take control of my disease, and I want to be a better man, father and player."

The Yankees pitcher praised the organization for being understanding and also said he looks forward to playing for New York next season.

This news comes about a month and a half after TMZ released a video of Sabathia almost getting into a fistfight after leaving a nightclub in Toronto.

The lefty had one of his worst seasons in 2015 with the Yankees going 6-10 with a 4.73 ERA.

New York will be playing Houston in the Wild Card game on Tuesday.

UPDATE -- 3:25 p.m.: In a press conference, Yankees General Manager and Senior VP Brian Cashman offered his full support of Sabathia. Cashman said that the team would do "everything in [their] power to support CC" and he believes Sabathia "has demonstrated a great deal of courage to tackle this problem."
