Many assume "partner" means a same-sex relationship -- but does it have to?

With a history of being excluded from marriage, same-sex couples often resorted to using the moniker "partner" to describe a significant other.

But do queer people monopolize the word? Jon Summers, who dated his partner for eight years before marrying, spoke to HuffPost Live last week about using "partner" in his own relationship.
