Two of the gay community's most beloved diversions -- Halloween and Broadway -- will come together on Oct. 30 for a special, one-night-only musical event.
"Ghost Light: Songs and Creepy Stories from Broadway and Beyond" will feature a bevy of musical talent, including Tony Award winner Daisy Eagan, "On Your Feet!" star Doreen Montalvo and cabaret performer Stacy Sullivan. The show, which plays New York nightspot Feinstein's/54 Below, will be co-hosted by theater experts Steve Schonberg (who is also a Huffington Post blogger) and Laura Heywood, best known as Twitter personality Broadway Girl NYC.
Through story and song, the performers and co-hosts will recount myths and creepy anecdotes of Manhattan's Theater District. For instance, does legendary director-choregrapher Bob Fosse really haunt the Lyceum Theater? And what about playwright and theater impresario David Belasco, whose ghost was said to have burst a pipe during rehearsals for "Dracula The Musical" in 2004?
Schonberg began planning "Ghost Light" after chatting with singer-actress Melissa Errico, who starred in "Dracula." He sees the show as a unique opportunity to explore the supernatural side of Manhattan's theatrical heritage.
"As a writer and theatre personality, I'm always looking for great stories and realized that there was a new, and pretty eerie, perspective to share," he told The Huffington Post. "Who doesn't love those weird moments when someone tells a personal ghost story and you get the chills or the hairs go up on the back of your neck?"
Of course, this being a cabaret performance and not a slasher film, "a creepy chill paired with a chilled martini is what I hope all our audience members will enjoy," Schonberg said.
