Ellie Goulding is having quite a year. Not only did the singer release a new album, she also starred in Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" music video, appeared on the cover of Shape magazine looking absolutely amazing and is set to perform at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. (And those are just a few of her recent accomplishments.)
But like many women in the music industry, Goulding didn't get to where she is today without facing a little (or a lot of) sexism.
The 27-year-old Brit opened up about her experiences with sexism in the business in a recent interview with People magazine.
"There are a lot of positive changes in the music industry, and I see those with myself and my entire team, which is mostly women," Goulding told the magazine, adding, "The music industry is a very male-oriented industry [and] always has been since I've been around."
The "Love Me Like You Do" singer noted that one of the most difficult parts of being a woman in the music business is dealing with an ever-present double standard.
"It annoys me that guys can easily write about one-night stands, but if a girl writes about one? God, that's terrible, you know?" she said.
Goulding added that she definitely identifies as a feminist, stating, "I call myself a feminist because it's a word for someone who believes in equality. And yes, that's something I absolutely believe in."
Goulding has previously spoken out about gender bias in the industry. Last month, she criticized music festivals -- Glastonbury, in particular -- for under-representing women. She did acknowledge, though, that the festival is making changes.
"I got annoyed when Glastonbury had so many men on the line-up," she said, adding "Then Florence [and the Machine] headlined. Things are changing, you know? And I love it."
