“Thank you, thanks for a great day.”

Those were the words that Kirk Cousins’ father reportedly said to the quarterback after Cousins followed a memorable offensive performance with an emotional postgame gift. The Washington quarterback led his team to a 47-14 trouncing of the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, but it was the moment after the final whistle blew, when he gave the game ball to his cancer-stricken father, that truly stood out.

“[It] put a smile on his face. And it was special for our family,” Cousins later told reporters.

As the Washington Post noted, this was the first contest of the year that Don Cousins was able to attend, as his cancer had kept him away from the field.

It was a touching moment for both the family and all those watching -- let’s hope that Don will be well enough to attend his son’s games for many seasons to come.
