Finally, some good news on the state of Lamar Odom has come out of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. According to sources close to the former NBA Sixth Man of the Year, Odom “shock[ed] his doctors” over the weekend by taking three steps on his own -- a marked sign of improvement just two months after his reported drug overdose in a Nevada brothel.

He gets better a little bit every day,” a source told Us Weekly. “He’s supposed to go to the rehab any day now.”

His first unassisted, physical strides forward were paired with a cognitive leap in the past few days, as Odom -- who has recently been suffering from severe memory lapses -- was able to "recognize a hospital staff member," according to TMZ. This proof of mental function is especially welcome in light of last week's report that he still occasionally forgets his own name.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that L.O. continues to take literal and symbolic steps forward. Keep battling, Lamar -- one thought, gesture or memory at a time.
