Jonathan Groff Was Shocked To Find Out People Didn't Know This About Gay Sex

He also promised the "most intense sex scene" he's ever shot.

Although he's keeping busy on Broadway , Jonathan Groff is still proud of the legacy that his HBO series, "Looking," left behind.

In November, Groff spoke at length with writer and editor Kevin Sessums in an onstage interview at San Francisco's Curran Theatre. Video footage of that interview has just been posted on the Curran Theatre's official YouTube page, showing the 30-year-old actor addressing what it felt like to shoot some of the steamy sex scenes in "Looking," before it was canceled in March 2015.

While he's no stranger to baring skin in other projects, Groff said the response to some of the sex scenes on "Looking" came as a big shock.

"One of the cool things about 'Looking' is that after the first season, a lot of people -- shockingly, liberal, open artists who live in New York and L.A. -- said to me they didn't know that gay people could have sex while facing each other," he said. "One of the great opportunities of the show was to...illuminate male intimacy in sex and just sort of intimacy in general that wasn't in sort of a porny, salacious way."

He praised "Looking" director Andrew Haigh, who recently helmed the Oscar-nominated drama, "45 Years," for "illuminating something that not a lot of people see, without being porny or salacious," in the series.

"Those scenes felt very real and true to life," he said. "I was excited to do them."

"Looking" fans can look forward to the series' forthcoming wrap-up movie, especially since Groff has promised "the most intense sex scene" he's ever shot for the film.
