The Colleges Where People Tweet The Most About Drinking

🍻🍷🍸📱

West Virginia University is known as a party school where no one would be surprised if someone there tweeted out a video of students flipping a car or lighting a couch on fire. But they might be surprised to learn that students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seem to post more tweets about drinking.

A ranking posted on CollegeStats.org, but created by the content marketing firm Fractl, scored which schools have the most people on campus posting comments on Twitter about drinking.

The analysis counted alcohol-related tweets that were made within 3 miles of the campus center, and then calculated the rankings by applying the number per capita, based on the school's enrollment. The tweets were collected during the 2014-15 school year, and included those with keywords like "drunk," "drinking," "alcohol," "booze," "beer" or "wine."

The ranking for large schools includes some known party schools like WVU and Ohio University. Among the Ivy League, Brown University is considered the school where students talk the most about drinking on Twitter, followed by Yale University. The University of Pennsylvania, which was somehow ranked the No. 1 party school in 2014 by Playboy magazine, lands in third among the Ivies on the drunk tweet countdown.

One caveat to note is that this looked at geolocated tweets, so it's possible that they included non-student posts. But many of them are residential campuses, suggesting that the non-student impact is minimal.

(A note about CollegeStats.org: It features a prominent box that purports to help website visitors find where to get a degree in three steps, but it leads you to their "Sponsored Schools," which are primarily for-profit colleges.
