Woman's Body Found In Suitcase On San Diego Sidewalk

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - The body of a woman stuffed into a suitcase was discovered on a sidewalk in downtown San Diego on Wednesday, sparking an investigation by homicide detectives, police said.

The suitcase was found across the street from an upscale hotel in the city's Core Columbia district, a neighborhood of offices and apartment buildings, San Diego police spokesman Robert Heims said.

Police did not immediately release any details of how the woman was suspected to have died, adding that investigators were trying to identify her.

Officers spent much of the day canvassing the area, looking for anyone in the hotel and a nearby office building who might have seen something suspicious, Heims said.

San Diego television station KGTV broadcast images of the suitcase being taken away on a gurney, covered with a sheet.
