Maya Rudolph got by with little help from her friends on the second episode of her new NBC variety show “Myra & Trina” "Maya and Marty" Tuesday night.

And by "a little help" we mean a full-out duet with her former "Saturday Night Live" castmate Tina Fey. The frequent collaborators reunited to pay tribute to variety shows of yesteryear by sampling some tunes your parents tried, and failed, to introduce you to.

After scaling some unnaturally high stools, Rudolph and Fey eased into the retro vibe with skinny microphones and a medley of classic '70s hits like Dionne Warwick’s “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again" and Captain and Tennille’s “Love Will Keep Us Together.” Of course, Rudolph couldn't help but give the latter a Charo twist.

But the sketch belonged to Fey, who gave us the greatest gift of all: a Joni Mitchell song generator.

“It’s actually really easy," she told Rudolph after improvising a highly convincing fake folk song. "If you ever want to make up a Joni Mitchell song, all you have to do is mention a place in Canada and then say something about a baby."

And to top it all off, the two ended the sketch by paying tribute to some funny ladies that have come before them with a rendition of Aretha Franklin's “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”
