The Aftermath Of This Ballplayer's Crotch Shot Just Gets Better And Better

It was a very testy at bat.

This was one really foul ball.

Baseball player Dan O'Reilly struck out pretty bad when he chose not to wear a cup during a game on Monday.

The 17-year-old was pinch-hitting late in the game when he got into a pinch himself. The junior outfielder fouled a ball right into his crotch. It wasn't pretty, as the below clip demonstrates.

O'Reilly, a junior at Henry Sibley High School in St. Paul, Minnesota, said he had two strikes against him when he experienced the very painful blow to his family jewels.

“I didn’t want to strike out looking,” O’Reilly said told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “I got a pitch high and inside and just wanted to fight it off. Unfortunately, I fought it into the wrong spot.”

Did he ever.

O'Reilly wasn't wearing a cup at the time he was battered in the balls -- and he doesn't plan to start.

“I don’t think it’s a requirement,” O’Reilly told the paper. “That’s how I’ve been rolling all season and it’s seemed to work, so I’ll stick with it.”

What might be bad for O'Reilly's virility is great for his virality: A video showing his reaction to the blow has become the crotch shot seen 'round the world.

The clip shows O'Reilly doing the following:

  • grabbing his sack while grimacing

  • throwing his batting helmet in frustration

  • looking inside his pants to make sure his private parts are still there

  • doing the dab to show he will indeed survive this trial of the human condition

Although O'Reilly had a very vivid reaction to his nutty accident, it's all a blur in retrospect.

"I was pretty out of it," he said, according to USA Today. "I don’t remember much. I remember throwing my helmet. I remember that I was not very happy, and that I was not coming out of the game."

O'Reilly has since recovered from this testy experience with the help of a bag of frozen peas.
