President Barack Obama honored the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx at the White House on Monday and stressed the importance of "equal pay for equal work" during his speech.

His remarks, which kicked off with an impromptu high-five from coach Cheryl Reeve's son Oliver, covered the "powerhouse" team's championship season, their involvement in the Minneapolis community and how the team has set an "outstanding example" for girls everywhere.

Obama said the players understand the responsibilities that come with becoming role models, quoting Lynx forward Maya Moore who once said, “We’re not super rich like the guys … but money’s not everything when you’re talking about dynasties and legacies, and inspiring young women and men, and opening people’s minds.”

But Obama added his two cents to the issue.

"Money is useful, too. And I am for equal pay for equal work," he said as the crowd applauded.
