The city of Dallas, still reeling from its own recent tragedy, shone red, white and blue Thursday night in solidarity with victims of the massacre in Nice, France.
At least 80 people, including children, were killed during a fireworks celebration in Nice on Thursday after a truck plowed into crowds of spectators gathered to celebrate Bastille Day, France’s national day.
Dallas’ skyline was adorned with a French flag on Thursday night. Other buildings shone blue, in remembrance of the five police officers killed in an attack in downtown Dallas last week.
Other cities around the world, including Brisbane, Australia, and New York, also lit up in solidarity with Nice, as world leaders expressed their sorrow and support for France.
“We stand in solidarity and partnership with France, our oldest ally, as they respond to and recover from this attack,” said U.S. President Barack Obama in a statement. “On this Bastille Day, we are reminded of the extraordinary resilience and democratic values that have made France an inspiration to the entire world, and we know that the character of the French Republic will endure long after this devastating and tragic loss of life.”
