We Almost Experienced A Celine-Dion-less 'Titanic'

Would the film have gone on and on?

Two great mysteries plague 1997’s blockbuster “Titanic.” What would’ve happened if Rose had moved just a few inches over on that door? And now, a new one: Would the film be just as legendary without Celine Dion’s poignant “My Heart Will Go On”?

While we’ll never know if Jack’s life could’ve been saved, despite endless fan theories and a “Mythbusters” episode dedicated to answering the question, we apparently came very close to experiencing a Celine-less “Titanic.”

Dion appeared on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday and told the host she never wanted to record the ballad.

“I didn’t want to do the song,” she told a shocked Fallon. “I’m sorry!”

The singer also said that she originally only planned a three-week stint in Las Vegas when she began her residency there in 2003.

“My oldest is 15-and-a-half, and he was not even 2 when we moved there,” she said.

The famed theater, the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, was built with Dion’s act in mind, however, Dion said there were some naysayers who didn’t think the show would succeed.

“They said, ‘Oh, gosh, the Titanic is gonna sink again,” she said, “And then at one point, you have to not listen to everybody and focus and believe or not in what you’re doing.”

Life lesson: When in doubt, listen to Celine Dion. Her concerts are still selling out to this day, making her the highest paid act in all of Vegas.
