Donald Trump: New York Times Reporters 'Don't Write Good'

A not-so-rare rant on his favorite subject: the media.

Donald Trump took another stab at the media Monday night, telling Fox News host and longtime Trump cheerleader Sean Hannity that “The New York Times is so unfair.”

“No matter how good I do on something, they’ll never write good,” the Republican presidential nominee said. “I mean, they don’t write good. ... They don’t know how to write good. And I guess if they did, they’re certainly not doing it.”

Trump singled out Maggie Haberman, a Times reporter who had an extensive interview with him during the Republican National Convention, as one of those who “don’t write good.”

“I call it ‘The Failing New York Times,’” Trump continued, “because it won’t be in business for probably more than a few years, unless somebody goes in and buys it and wants to lose a lot of money.”

At a campaign event in Columbus, Ohio, earlier on Monday, he’d suggested that he may revoke the Times’ press credentials for his campaign events ― something he has already done to many other media outlets, including The Huffington Post.

Trump’s grammatically flawed tirade on Fox News has already been mocked by many, including MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” which likened it to a comedic clip from the movie “Zoolander.”

In addition to The New York Times, Trump also called out CNN as part of the allegedly “unfair” and “biased” media. CNN correspondent Brian Stelter commented on those remarks Tuesday morning, assuring CNN host Carol Costello that “no matter what Trump is saying, positive or negative, as long as the press strives for fairness, we will come out of this election looking good.”

Stelter called this an “especially strong period of media bashing” from Trump, noting the nominee’s latest tweetstorm against CNN. While he acknowledged that Trump’s attacks “get a lot of retweets” and “[get] his crowds energized,” Stelter then asked the million-dollar question:

“Why is he talking about us, and not policy?”

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims ― 1.6 billion members of an entire religion ― from entering the U.S.
