Spotting a doppelgänger in the wild is a rare and beautiful thing. But a good Leonardo DiCaprio lookalike? That’s like finding a Pikachu on Pokémon Go.
During the men’s archery competition Saturday at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, American athlete Brady Ellison and his team nabbed a silver medal, placing second after South Korea. In the hearts of “Titanic” fans everywhere, however, Ellison was nothing short of gold.
Viewers couldn’t help but notice the archer’s striking resemblance to the actor ― scruffy beard, unkempt hair, sexual charisma, almost always coming in second ― and took to social media to excitedly poke fun of the similarities.
Ellison, who has another chance at Olympic gold on Tuesday at the individual men’s archery event, even addressed the buzz surrounding his appearance.
“I’ve had it told to me before, even when I was younger,” Ellison told the Associated Press about the DiCaprio comparison. “I personally don’t see a huge resemblance, maybe besides the facial hair. He is a good-looking dude so I guess it’s a compliment.”
“I don’t know what to say about it,” he added. “But I think it’s pretty cool.”
If only DiCaprio had shown up to the Olympics ...
