Nike aired a new commercial last night during the Rio Olympics broadcast featuring superstar transgender athlete Chris Mosier, the first openly trans athlete to earn a spot on a U.S. National Team.
Nikeβs βUnlimited Courageβ campaign draws attention not only to Mosierβs skills as an athlete, but also to the lack of openly transgender competitors at the Olympics. This short film is the first of three from Nike that will recognize and celebrate everyday athletes on a global scale.
βBeing the first trans man on a U.S. menβs national team was a dream come true for me,β Mosier said in an interview published on Nike News. βI always wanted my name on a jersey. To represent our country at the highest level, in my sport, is just outstanding. Itβs just such an amazing opportunity β and an amazing opportunity for other people to see themselves reflected in someone succeeding in sports as a trans man.β
Previously, Mosier, who competes in the duathlon and the triathlon, was the first trans athlete to be featured in ESPNβs Body Issue.
βI love my body. It took a long time for me to get to a point where I could say that, so Iβm happy to be in a place where I can share that with the world,β Mosier said at that time.
Check out the short film βUnlimited Courageβ and stay tuned for more from Nike.
