Caramel M&M's Are Coming For Your Sweet Tooth Next Year

It's so wrong it might actually be right.

For the first time in its 75-year history, M&M’s is introducing caramel filling.

You might be thinking, “Why mess with perfection?” But if Kathie Lee and Hoda’s glowing review is any indication, this new flavor might be so wrong, it’s right.

MMs

Each bite-sized piece of candy will contain a soft caramel center and crunchy chocolate outer coating. This is brand new territory for the candy company, which has never offered a soft center before.

“It was a big technological challenge for us,” Mars Chocolate vice president of research and development Hank Izzo told CNN. “We never before had a M&M lentil with a true soft center, so we had to figure out how to not make the chocolate too sticky or too soft that it could collapse.”

If you’re looking for a healthy sweet tooth indulgence, caramel M&M’s may not be it. One standard bag of milk chocolate M&M’s contains 30 grams of sugar ― well over the World Health Organization’s sugar intake recommendation of 25 grams per day. High sugar diets can lead to weight gain, heart disease and a number of other health problems.

If the sugar doesn’t get you, the wait just might: caramel M&M’s are expected to hit shelves in May 2017. You’ll have to make do with Rolos in the meantime. Patience, young grasshoppers.
