This Smart Sports Bra Claims It Can Help Manage Your Stress

Finally, a bra we might not want to rip off at the end of the day.

There is no better feeling than ripping your bra off at the end of the day. But a new bra promises to help you feel good while you’re wearing it, too.

Vitali is smart sports bra on Kickstarter that claims to work as “your intuitive wellness coach.” The bra uses sensors and gentle taps to track breathing, posture and heart rate variability, or HRV, which its makers say “is a key physiological indicator of stress.”

“When Vitali notices your HRV getting low, it gently reminds you to take a deep breath,” a promotional video explains. The bra then guides you through a breathing pattern in sync with your heart’s rhythm.

“Doing this stops your body’s unconscious reaction to stress before it starts,” the video says.

Studies have shown that HRV may be a good indicator of stress levels, and we already know there are both physical and physiological benefits of mindful breathing. But we’d also definitely benefit from a reminder to stop slouching. Using a gentle tap, the Vitali will remind you to sit up straight, like an annoying yet useful friend.

Like finding your zen in a fancy yoga class, this high-tech version of mindfulness will cost you. The bra, which includes the tapping “gem,” a charger and a corresponding app, will set you back $249. People who pledge now can purchase one for $129 as a “super early bird” deal.

Vitali has raised over $25,000 in Kickstarter funding as of Thursday. With roughly another $25,000 to go to reach its goal and 32 days to raise it, the creators might be using their own bras to try to keep calm as we speak. But we’re definitely intrigued to see how these would work in our own lives.
