Looking just a shadow of his former self, Patrick Swayze battles on with his fight against cancer, trying to live a normal life by going shopping.

But behind the sunglasses the star of Ghost and Dirty Dancing looks gaunt.

The 55-year-old was pictured defiantly going to the shops near his ranch on the outskirts of Los Angeles.

Leave Mr Swayze alone. He has been through enough trauma without being hounded by the paparazzi. Let him heal physically and spiritually.

I just saw Patrick as an unsuspecting leukemia patient on an old M.A.S.H. episode at the start of his career. You can see it at the inception why he became a star.

"Leave him alone", is the LAST thing people should do.
He is "out and about" because he is trying to live. Part of his life is his star status. It brings him joy.
Most importantly, Patrick has always felt he had something to say about the various stages of life. I'm sure he feels it is important to share this part of his life too, for the common good.

If you "leave him alone", you isolate him from the stimulus that he has always had. His comfort zone. Sick people do not need to be alone. They need to see "life" happening all around them. The good and the bad. The polite and obnoxious. Just like always.

I know the "Leave him alone" posters, had their hearts in the right place.

You have an amazing ability to know exactly what Patrick is thinking and feeling....and an even more amazing certainty that you're right. I can only assume this comes from your own experience battling cancer?

Some sick people enjoy company in short doses. Many are so weak that alone-ness feels blessedly relieving. But whether Patrick is one or the other, this is one time the paps should pull back and give him some privacy. Chemo, radiation, and other treatments change one's appearance, emotions, and everything else. I can tell you for sure that even if he wants to go on living, he's not in need of a band of greedy voyeurs...either the ones who shoot the photos or those who feast on them when it's none of their business.

Perhaps your heart too is in the right place. But don't speak for Patrick. And don't speak for those who are desperately ill from cancer and its treatment....not unless you've been there.

As someone who battled sarcoma for three years, I know how much this guy NEEDS his privacy. You shameless, low-life vultures with cameras, how do you sleep, making money off someone else's tragedy? What goes around comes around, and when it does, you're going to have a payday you won't believe.

Makes you realize how very transient this lifetime really is. We're just dancin on this Earth for a short while.

I have to say the same thing. LEAVE THIS MAN ALONE. Unless he wants to do some sort of interview or whatever to bring further awareness to cancer, stop trying to make a buck on his "gaunt" appearance and other apparent physical imperfections and frailties that this terrible affliction brings on. This includes HUFPPOST as well. Would be nice to end all links to tabloid-esque stories and photos about him. It's called good taste.

Well he's one of the saner stars, and lives anonymously in the LA Suburb of Lake View Terrace, among anonymous housing tracts, not pretentious at all, if you didn't do a google earth search you wouldn't even know many folks have passed by his house with out even knowing it. Wouldn't be surprised if he shopped at the Ralph's Supermarket down the street.

This is too sad. I really hope he didn't have to be aware his picture was being snapped as he tried to live his life in peace. What is the benefit of this? To force him indoors, in hiding? I hope the photographer and others responsible for this callousness rot in hell. How do you sleep?

I think the photographer should be applauded, every picture tells a story and this one tells it beautifully, I'll see this picture in my minds eye for the rest of my life whenever this man crosses my mind. What a wonderful person, and what a wonderful portrait.
