Clinton's Iran Policy Recieves Mixed Reception From Analysts

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) has ratcheted up her rhetoric against Iran, pledging recently to extend U.S. nuclear protection to friendly Arab nations against Iran's nuclear ambitions and asserting that if Tehran considers attacking Israel, "we would be able to totally obliterate them."

The Iranian government lashed out last week in response, with an Iranian diplomat at the United Nations condemning Clinton's statement as "provocative, unwarranted and irresponsible." In a letter to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Iran's deputy U.N. ambassador, Mehdi Danesh-Yazdi, also referred to Clinton's threat as a "flagrant violation" of the U.N. Charter. Clinton's campaign dismissed the letter.

This morning I watched Obama on TIm Russert and was very impressed by the way he answered the questions. People fault him for being too "halting" at times, but to me it shows that he's thinking about what he wants to say. Then I watched Clinton on ABC (on tape) and could hardly believe the things I was hearing her say. She dismissed the advice of economists on the gas tax, calling them "elite" and saying basically that she wasn't going to listen to them. When asked about Iran, she in no way repudiated her previous statement to "obliterate" Iran, and did not back down from her previous rhetoric. Our position in the world is scary enough to prevent my husband and I from traveling in Europe at this time, and having someone like Sen. Clinton talk about using nuclear weapons is inexcusable. When will the MSM wake up and start reporting actual news? Please, voters of IN and NC, let's end this debacle now. If you didn't watch Clinton on ABC this morning, please inform yourselves of what she said before making a decision to cast your vote for her. I'm from MN and a 60 something white woman, Clintons "demographic", who would not vote for her if she was the last person on earth- which she might just be after leading us into nuclear war.

The Iran issue is 100% Israeli, Iran is no danger to the US. Make Israel adhere to the standards that it and the US want to impose on Iran. Israel refuses to sign the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty ,which Iran has done. Israel refuses to allow IAEA inspections of their nuke facilities, which Iran has done. Israel refuses to comply with any UN resolutions, which the US protects it from. And we try to get Iran -- an NPT member -- to stop enriching uranium and expect not to sound outright hypocritical? Iran has every right to defend themselves against Israel. The IAEA in Israel ? Exactly. If Iran, with its imaginary nukes, attacks Israel, Israel is perfectly capable of obliterating Iran all by its lonesome. After all, they're one of the few states in the middle East (or anywhere where the majority of people are brown) that we've "approved" for nuke possession. There's no reason for the US to get involved if all we plan to do is rain additional bombs down on everyone instead of try to mediate the situation.
Also, it was a stupid answer because it supports the notion that the U.S. position on middle East conflicts is always knee-jerk pro-Israel, and if I'm not mistaken, that's one thing that so many Arab nations resent about the U.S.

I seem to recall Clinton pouncing on Obama over his comments surrounding a unilateral offensive into Pakistan (with "actionable intelligence" regarding al Qaeda) . . . .and his unwillingness to use nuclear weapons . . . is this still an issue?

In another article, here on Huffington Post, pictures of the nuclear Holocaust aftermath in Japan, still don't convey the toll, inhumanity and innocent casualties of such a decision to go nuclear?
