Almost eight years after al-Qaeda nearly sank the USS Cole with an explosives-stuffed motorboat, killing 17 sailors, all the defendants convicted in the attack have escaped from prison or been freed by Yemeni officials.

Jamal al-Badawi, a Yemeni who helped organize the plot to bomb the Cole as it refueled in this Yemeni port on Oct. 12, 2000, has broken out of prison twice. He was recaptured both times, but then secretly released by the government last fall. Yemeni authorities jailed him again after receiving complaints from Washington. But U.S. officials have so little faith that he's still in his cell that they have demanded the right to perform random inspections.

If these guys weren't in Gitmo who is?

Let me guess. The Yemeni's are not about to allow extradition of their citizens to lawless confinement at Guantanomo. So instead of extradicting them and giving them a fair trial in American Courts, Bush left them in captivity in Yemen. Where, surprise, surprise they escape. So the criminals, convicted criminals, go free because of the stupid policies of GW Bush.

Free to rejoin al Qaida and attack Americans somewhere else. Or serve as propaganda models.

That is about par for the course.

The stupidity of the Bush Administration is a never ending wonder.

" the extensive investigations that followed the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. " ???

Not extensive enough. NOTHING that was controversial was pursued. Like WHY did WTC #7 collapse, or for that matter ...

Where is the clown who was captain of the Cole? His ship was a sitting duck, ripe for attack, and his defenses were ineffective at best. Was he charged with dereliction and dismissed?

Hold on now, I thought we wanted to treat these good fellows just like jay walkers and litterers. This is simply a matter for courts of, ahem, law.

Tell you what. Let's hunt each one of these murders down and leave them lying in the street with their heads blown off. Work for you?

If the Cole's defenses had been ready, locked and loaded, there would have been a roar about three hundred yards out as the boat was engaged and destroyed. What do you expect in that part of the world if the command inventories the oyster forks in the officer mess while refueling?

You retards! Al Qaeda still works for the CIA. They did in the 80's, they did on 9/11, and they still do. Get your head out of the American media's arse and realize that everything you've been fed is a lie.

yep. thats right.

but al qaeda doesn't have as much explosives and false flag experience as another Middle Eastern country does.

The Yemeni government cut deals with the Cole bombers out of fear of reprisal by Al-qaeda. A well-organized criminal element holding governments at bay and inducing fear, death and destruction must be Al-qaeda's legacy.

Kind of makes GITMO legit....Maybe a little persuasive interrogation with some harsh confinement would have been desired...Oh , but Jimmy Carter , and Barack and Pelosi and Reid and Murtha would have found this to be hurtful.

GITMO is proof that the US under George Bush will cave on its Constitution with just a little provocation. As long as GITMO stands, the terrorists can point to a victory.

"cave on it's Constitution" ??

Those terrorists at Club Gitmo do not qualify for protection under our Constitution. They don't even qualify for protection under the Geneva Convention, but we give them more.

They get a Koran, 3 meals a day (which conform to Islamic law), a prayer rug and notices 5 times a day when it's time to pray.

You are wrong on every point.

But i don't suppose there is any chance of reasoning with you.

Not to mention all of their naive like-minded co-religionists.

Nothing makes GITMO legit. Setting up a prison where they can illegally torture is shameful. These criminals should be put in maximum security prisons in the U.S. (In solitary confinement), and be given due process. If we are so sure they are terrorists then why can't we provide the evidence to convict them in a regular court. Only in kangaroo courts would testimony obtained during torture be allowed as evidence.

Wow, the horror! How dare they torture the poor jihadist like that! I demand they be given a decent meal, full shaving gear (with on-hands training of how to use it) and a decent meal! You know, something good and wholesome! Hell, throw them a pig roast for cripesakes! These terrorists need to be treated like citizens!

Why do you hate our freedoms?

Why are you so ready to throw over 200+ years of law, tradition and justice because of your hatreds?

Prisoners need to be treated humanely. Why? Because we are Americans. And that is what separates us from the brutes in the world.

Used to any how.

And this of course is why the U.S. shouldn't be relying on the rest of the world for anything in regards to our fight with the Islamic terrorists. If they'd been sent to GITMO they'd still be sitting there now,Instead they're free and plotting their next attack.

If not, why not?

I just can't believe that those good folks who inhabit the Middle East would allow this to happen. I assure you that corruption does not exist in any Middle Eastern country. It just can't be true.

Tou have to be kidding. If Obama is elected, all the prisoners at GitMo will be released. Allowed to go back to their terrorist jobs as the ones already released have done.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:34 PM on 05/04/2008

And the ones already released, were the "worst of the worst" weren't they?

So why were they released?

And the fact that some turned to attacking their captors. That is a surprise in what way?

Pay attention. This is complicated. Try and understand.

They were released because there was no evidence to hold them (or Bush/Cheney are totally inept. I wound't rule that out.)

But their time in confinement radicalized them. Made them hate Americans bad enough to become suicide bombers.

In other words, we created our own worst enemies.

Let's sww. Obama wants to close GitMo. Last week a suicide bomber wo blew himself up was release previously from GitMo. Seems pretty cut and dried to me.
