It's an apartment fit for a queen, with a price tag to match - and here's a peek inside.

Brooke Astor's palatial Park Ave. spread officially went on sale Monday for $46 million - all cash.

The 14-room duplex where New York's grandest grande dame spent most of the last half-century of her life boasts a living room with spectacular views up and down Park Ave. and a library with red lacquer shelves that is said to be one of New York's most-photographed rooms.

There are five wood-burning fireplaces and six terraces.

The pricey pad - monthly maintenance is more than $17,000 - quickly hit the top spot on Corcoran's most-viewed properties list on its Web site.

For a home like that, with a history like that, that's a fair price and it will sell quickly.

Brooke Astor represented "old money," and with that old money came both exquisite taste and quiet generosity. She did even more with her wealth than she ever felt the need to point-out to the public, and her family continues in that manner.

She wasn't really "old money," she married into it. But she wore it well, didn't she? So sad that she was neglected at the very end of her life.

Oprah bought a house in Santa Barbara about six years ago for $55 million.
It was the most expensive "single family" house sold in the history of American real estate.
