Hillary Clinton has been pilloried for pandering to working class voters with her gas-tax holiday proposal. But she's not the only one telling working-class voters what they want to hear.

"Barack Obama believes in clean Kentucky coal." So reads a direct mailer being distributed in Kentucky ahead of the state's May 20 primary. (Click the image to the right for a larger version.)

So .... What is the point. This has been part of his platform for the longest time. He is also a big advocate of Clean Coal technology. Hey stupids .... Look who is the biggest benefactor of coal usage. America is called the OPEC of coal. Once the research is applied on collecting Carbon emissions we will be in a position to move forward. This also gives us a better position against those cartels squeezing us with petroleum!!! You are complaining about something that would be advantageous.

Tool!!!

Obama does believe in clean coal. It is part of his energy plan that has been posted on his website. This is what his site stated at the END OF JANUARY when I printed out his policies:

DEVELOP AND DEPLOY CLEAN COAL TECHNOLOGY: Obama will significantly increase the resources devoted to the commercialization and deployment of low-carbon coal technologies. Obama will consider whatever policy tools are necessary, including standards that ban new traditional coal facilities, to ensure that we move quickly to commercialize and deploy low carbon coal technologies.

Whether you agree with his policy or not, this is not a new "gas tax holiday" policy he just made up to pander to Kentucky.

Kate Shepherd and Gristmill- very shoddy, sloppy sensational journalism! And,why is this getting linked here on Huffington Post? I thought you, at least, did some homework?

Just wait. If Hillary doesn't drop out, as she should, and continues campaigning in Kentucky, look for her to become the coal miner's daughter.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:51 AM on 05/07/2008

Oh, I'd put money on that! Thanks for the chuckle!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:18 AM on 05/07/2008

It is not pandering if it has been his policy all along. But it is a bad policy, my understanding was that clean coal is a paradox. You can't stand by coal and stand by environmentalists, you have to choose.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:25 PM on 05/06/2008

Check out the technology he is referring to. This is just a stopgap measure to add releife while we try to get past the BIGGER picture!!!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:51 PM on 05/07/2008

Pandering? Lame, please try again.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:36 PM on 05/06/2008

...This is entirely consistent with his past positions. That's not a pander.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:08 PM on 05/06/2008

Well, well, well, he is a politician like Wright said.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:47 PM on 05/06/2008

No, remember Illinois is a coal state!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:05 PM on 05/06/2008

When Barak discusses coal processing, its not pandering, its a good idea because it has the word "clean" in the sentence.

When a Republican advocates for coal mining, it is to destroy the earth and is a bad idea.

Makes perfect sense to me.

There is a reason why NO candidate has a firm policy plan for eco-friendly technology- as of now, only a few steps can be taken, it is expensive as all hell most of the time and most technoliogy is still under-developed and they have no incentive to

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:43 PM on 05/06/2008

I don't see how this is "pandering" at all, there has been alot of reseach regarding ways to use coal that did not distroy the environment. Obama has talked about the need for more research in the area as coal is one source the United States has alot of. This is not a subject he came up with today just to win a vote or two. Nope not pandering but forward thinking. Whether he gets a vote in Kentucky does not matter, the idea of working to find a way to use our own resources is still a good idea.

China and Australia signed a formal international agreement for research into carbon

capture from coal plants on March 6, 2008.

They will begin their pilot research project later this year.

Obama has been discussing this matter for a long time.

He went into great detail when he had his long interview with the San Francisco Chronicle

Editorial Board, back in January. Several weeks later, the San Francisco Chronicle endorsed him.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:02 PM on 05/06/2008

wow, Huffington really swung full tilt towards clinton today eh?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:19 PM on 05/06/2008

A nice change, wouldn't you agree?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:45 PM on 05/06/2008

I don't know if this can be called a "pander." Obama really does believe in clean coal, which is one of the things I don't like about his policies. Can't go with the clean coal or the nuclear.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:55 PM on 05/06/2008

Clean coal is an oxymoron like army intelligence, but it's not pandering when Obama has been consistent in his (wrong-headed) position.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:48 PM on 05/06/2008

Not sure how this is pandering....

Obama has talked about clean coal often.

Just because getting to clean coal is not a quick fix, doesn't mean it wouldn't be good for the environment and Kentucky.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:42 PM on 05/06/2008

What the heck is this? Something critical of St. Barack here on the Huffington Post! Sabotage!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:40 PM on 05/06/2008

Now, don't be bitter...

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:49 PM on 05/06/2008

He can promise Kentucky voters they'll all get a mansion in the sky, but he will never win Kentucky.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:35 PM on 05/06/2008

Well he should learn how to pander, because ole girl is beating him at the game!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:25 PM on 05/06/2008

So she go to you! How can you believe her pandering lies?

Duck, sniper fire!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:29 PM on 05/06/2008

He doesn't have to pander, he has already won the game that counts.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:31 PM on 05/06/2008

Yeah, I believe in clean coal too. I also believe in the investment that it will take in smokestack scrubbers and the technology to make it so. Japan is way ahead of us on this and made the investment when it didn't cost nearly as much as it is going to cost us. Unfortunately, too few Americans believe in footing the bill to save our planet. Change is on the way though. Obama '08!

As for this thread, it is simply pandering to the Clinton panderers. Nothing to see here, move on.org already.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:23 PM on 05/06/2008

Sadly (for I am an Obama supporter), he has also sponsored a bill on producing liquid fuel from coal as part of the general pandering to motorists. The devastation involved in getting coal by "mountaintop removal" can never be termed "clean".

America (and the rest of the world) must be weaned from this destructive and addictive hypermobility, which is behind the present war and probably more to come, unless we recognise that there is NO WAY we can carry on as usual!

i call bullshit

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:15 PM on 05/06/2008

Saying we need coal is not pandering. Believing there's such a thing a "clean coal" is sheer stupidity.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:13 PM on 05/06/2008

Keyword pander ey!

At least he believes it and is not promising something he can't deliver on.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:10 PM on 05/06/2008

barack has been open to EVERYTHING including coal and atomic!

and has said so from the beginning!

so ... THAT IS NOT A PANDER

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:10 PM on 05/06/2008

And? No comparison.
