Cyclone In Myanmar: 10 Ways To Help

The devastating cyclone that hit Myanmar on Saturday May 3rd has left over 22,000 people dead and over 40,000 missing. Here are 10 places you can donate to support the disaster relief:

1) American Red Cross- The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has also released an initial $189,000 and shipped shelter kits, made up of tarps, ropes and hammers, to support the relief effort in Myanmar. Additionally, the American Red Cross is prepared to respond with financial aid, estimated at $100,000, to aid cyclone survivors.

Weeks ago, the kooks were everywhere, showing their concernnnnn for Tibetians by chaining themselves to one another, chasing the Olympic torch all over the globe, etc.

Here we have basic genocide right before our eyes & not a kook to be heard from.

I know it's tough protesting coal plants in the US, cocoa butter in the rain forests and being in Burma at the same time, but you'd think at least one kook would demand to be chained to a bale of food & dropped inside Burma.

Or maybe they could stage a sit-it at the dictator's palace?

The best way to help those poor people would be if somehow the illigal Millitary junta could be tossed out on it's collective ear. Too bad there is no "Mr Spock" of Startrek to beam them out and beam back the legitimate government. The junta showed how bad and brave they are this spring when they attacked with automatic weapons and billy clubs, the Monks who tried to stand up for the country and what is right. Now this.....this so called government is nothing but a bunch of chickenshit assholes terrorising an entire country. Renaming Burma to Myanmar does not make it their private killing field legally.

I went with UNICEF initially, but recently I learned that Asia Transpacific Foundation is already in the country with a an operating water filter production facility.
My perception is that this is a real "rubber meets the road" operation, and that any donation will probably actually help regular people in Myanmar.

The sad part about this is the US and other countries have wanted to bring them aid, but their stupid leaders have refused. How tragic is that?

I don't see it that way. Here is how Bush's foreign policy works: Pretend to care, but insult the hell out of the recipients or do something similar to make them balk, then point at them for refusing aid. Or, do nothing, like in Lebanon.
