Yes, justices like Scalia, who believes torture is fine, since it's not "punishment".
Have we ever had such morally-backward people such as this on the SCOTUS bench?
This week, John McCain gave a speech for the ages - the Dark Ages. He offered up the Right's boilerplate complaints about activist judges -- ignoring the fact that the majority of federal judges are GOP appointees, as are 7 of the 9 Supreme Court Justices. Or maybe he was having another McCain moment. Across the aisle, while Hillary's chances of winning teetered between none and "What are you smoking?" Obama played it cool, allowing Hillary the space to face the inevitable with dignity and on her own terms - the political equivalent of "it isn't you, it's me."

if we don't vote for change we are in for more heart ache and all will suffer for it not this time not this time
Your voting for the wrong change. There will be no change until we have term limits for House and Senate 2-6 year terms across the board. It will be status quo until that happens no matter who we elect.
There's a reason that hasn't happened already - Small population states get screwed in that deal.
So screw small population states.
Since when is minority rule a principle of democracy?
What sense does it make that a voter can increase the value of his vote merely by moving to a differnet state?
How do you figure that? Two six year terms is plenty. Our governor In Arizona can only be in for two 4 year terms. It's a much fairer way of doing things. They're not supposed to have a career in Congress. It's too much power for too damn long.
Hillary voted with the neocons and appears to be doing their bidding now.
Rendition started under Bill, and we only have campaign rhetoric to suggest Hillary has changed.
Could it be it isn't ego or delusion, but ideology that keeps Hillary in the race?
If Obama supporters think he will win without Hillary supporters, they are in for a rude awakening come November.
I would advise my supporters to not be so smug and arrogant.
That is exactly what many of them think.
The DNC leadership believes moderate Dems and Hillary supporters will just arrive at the voting booths like sheep and vote for Barry and Michelle.
At least half will 1)stay home 2)vote for McCain.
The DNC leadership wil try and pander (dare I use that word, isn't that reserved for Barry?) to white blue collar by coming up with someone that believe connects with same. This is how stupid they think anyone who did not go to Harvard is. It won't work and Barry will trot back to Chi down and pick up where he left off. Big book deals, etc. He will make millions off this campaign one way or the other.
You have no idea what youre talking about.
Those of us who are NOT part of those silly polls, are coming out in HUGE numbers in NOV..
TAKING BACK AMERICA IN 2008 !
UNITED WE STAND
DIVIDED WE FALL
OBAMA 08
Does this "we" include the republicans?
Hillary and HER SUPPORTERS must THINK THAT she got her NY SENATE SEAT and primary votes in NY, CA and TX and NV from "just white folks"?!?! THINK AGAIN. The United States is a Very DIVERSE nation. HRC and her supporters CONSTANT RACE BAITING (think hispanics, and OTHER non-white voters aren't paying attention?) caused her to LOSE more than this contest but ANY OTHER political contest she thinks she is ENTITLED to run. The classic "spolied little girl mantra", of "if I can't have it my way, I'll cry, whine and throw a tantrum unless you DO IT THE WAY I WANT IT". Throw your baby out with the bath water is no way for any astute mature Democrat to behave. But that isn't what we are talking about is it?
Hillary was handed her New York Senate seat. She's not from New York. That's why she thinks she should be handed the Presidency. No way!
Independent for Obama '08
The only other alternative would be McCain. If people vote for McCain and against their self-interest, then they will get what they deserve.
America seems to think and politics is sports. And it's my team, right or wrong. That is what has got us into the current mess. It's not about team (R vs D), but about the best individual. And McCain just doesn't have what it takes.
This article just appeared in Chicago Sun Times....Obama adviser/supporter who meets with Hamas resigns.
read it as you wil never see it on the Huffington Post in all likelihood
http://www.suntimes.com/news/sweet/943467,CST-NWS-Sweet11.article
So much for Obama's faux outrage with regard to McCain stating the simple fact that Hamas supports Obama in the election.
He called it a smear. So on the left a smear is actually stating the truth?
Now it turns out that Obama had a liaison to Hamas.
Obama, even if elected, will never be my president
There are Hillary advisors/supporters who are ready to sell out to NAFTA, oops, her husband allready did.
Does that shape her opnion on nafta?
There are at least 20-30 million supporters of each candidate. Get a grip!
It was McSame's advisor that quit not Obama's.
Wow...how clueless. No it was Obama's liaison to Hamas that resigned....after Obama expressed "outrage" that McCain would state the true fact that Hama supports Obama.
And Hamas votes in which state?
So what? The corporate media is sure to play up any connection that could hurt Obama, no matter how indirect, as this informal foreign policy adviser's contact with Hamas. But you're not going to see the story about John McCain's DIRECT relationship to G. Gordon Liddy, the convicted felon and Hitler admirer in the corporate media.

This story has been around for a week but with the exception of this Chapman article, it's been ignored. But I'll bet that the cable news channels will be all over this Hamas non-story by Monday.
Regardless of Arianna's personal support for Obama, HP is clearly not a "mouthpiece" for his campaign, as "sf94127" alleges below. I can help her/him answer the insinuations listed therein.
There's no evidence Rev. Wright is a racist, nor that Obama agrees with his views. Pres. Clinton invited Wright to the White House during his 2nd term where he greeted Hillary and his public statements reveal no hint of anti-white sentiment. He criticized white racists for their historical treatment of non-whites, just as I'd criticize anti-Semites who harassed me in high school or college. That doesn't make me anti-Christian, nor would an abused wife who rails against conjugal abuse or misogyny necessarily be a man-hater simply because she doesn't like being treated like scum. I respectfully disagree with Obama's rejection of some of Wright's views, though I'll concede that Wright's mocking gestures and silly impersonation of JFK make him an embarrassment to more level-headed civil rights activists such as Jesse Jackson & Tavis Smiley.
Obama described his white grandmother simply because she reflects the cultural history of racial relations in the U.S., particularly in her home-state of Kansas, where Brown v. Bd.of Ed. generated in 1954. My own family I'd describe the same way as culturally typical, unfortunately mainly Republican Jews who despise Muslims & Arabs, while labelling Democrats as the most despicable epithets. Most of us come from a bigoted family history, but this doesn't guarantee we'll turn out this way.
Apparently the American people aren't convinced yet that Obama is the nominee or even the better candidate in the Democratic race.
The latest Times/Bloomberg Poll, taken several days before and after Tuesday's primaries in Indiana and North Carolina, shows Hillary Clinton inspiring more confidence in handling the economy than either Barack Obama or John McCain. According to the poll, the economy was the most pressing concern for the public irrespective of party, gender or income.
The poll also shows Clinton leading McCain in a hypothetical match up 47% to 38% with 11% undecided compared to Obama"s lead over McCain of 46% to 40%, with 9% undecided.
Hmm, maybe the pundits and Obama supporters should let the people speak and stop trying to force Hillary Clinton out of the race?
polls? is that what you're going with now? you have no idea how polls work and I feel bad for you if you gauge your decision on what "poll" says.
A poll released a few days ago has Obama winning by 6 points in "Big State" California if the vote were today.
Hillary has alienated many Democrats.
Theoretical polls before the general election has started have been all over the place, and aren't reliable.
The primary race was over a long time ago, and the grasping at straws is sad.
"Hillary has alienated many democrats."
So has Obama, and his supporters. With supporters like Obama has, who needs Rev. Wright.
If polls are so reliable, then how did Clinton manage to win NH's primary when all the polls assured Obama's victory? Every major network was humiliated by her victory because it showed either the pollsters had no clue how to conduct their business, the respondents lied or there was serious funny business going on with those damn Diebold machines that wreaked so much havoc in OH in 2004, thanks to their Republican CEO. Political history also shows that polls during a primary season have no bearing on the outcome in the general election.
If the economy is the most pressing issue for these respondents, this further underscores support for Obama, given his intellectual honesty on issues such as the gas tax for which the economists' consensus is that it wouldn't save drivers much money in the long run, wouldn't be politically feasible anytime soon and wouldn't reduce the overall gas price. Why would Clinton agree with McCain on this issue when he publicly admitted that he doesn't understand the economy? Obama's public statements demonstrate that he has an astute grasp of all the relevant issues in an intricate, analytical way. Clinton convinced me long ago that she'll say & do anything to win votes. Walking her talk is not something I'd ever expect of her. If you expect someone who's part of the problems of the past 8 years to solve them (ie. wars, PATRIOT Act, economic disaster), then you're drinking LSD-laced Kool-Aid. I'll sell you the Brooklyn Bridge.
The situation in NH- as reported to me by a friend I made while volunteering for the Obama Campaign- she worked in NH for MONTHS and apparently at the time (although now it will be interesting to see if this has changed) many Independents favored both McCain and Obama. So when the polls had Obama up by 12 and McCain down by a lot, the Independents saw that McCain needed their help more than Obama did, thus they voted for McCain- he won and Obama lost.
My sister in Law also lives in NH and she along with other females in the state bought into the emotional moment Hillary had, and it won them over. That coupled with the misleading- aka LYING- flyers that went out by a group that endorsed Hillary- slamming Obama on prochoice, saying he didn't support it when in fact he does. They had a picture of Edwards on the inside of the flyer to fool people, and keep them from thinking the flyer could be coming from a pro Hillary group.
Why would such a "female" candidate allow, or even author such a flyer that jeopardizes and lies about an important female issue? Its like having a flyer out there that misleads some one's stance on Breast cancer. this is one female who will not be supporting Hillary. But that is besides the point- she's down, she shot herself in the foot along time ago.
The people HAVE spoken.
That's why Obama's ahead in delegate votes, super delegates, popular vote, and any other REAL metric you'd care to use.
Because polls aren't real. Most of them are far off the mark, in fact.
A poll can't beat real hard math, baby. And the math says that Obama's the winner.
Why can't folks like you understand that? What makes you so special that your voice should count more than mine?
Yup!!!
You're one of those who wants to force Clinton out of the race before the remaining primaries are over - thus disenfranchising a few million voters.
If the math said Obama was the winner, you can bet the Obama-intoxicated media and his followers would have him crowned king by now.
The people polled by the LA Times and Bloomberg beg to differ from you and the rest of the lemmings in your crowd who are ready to sell out the first principle of democracy - allowing for full and free elections.
But then I don't expect you to have any idea about how democracy actually works.
Democracy actually works by counting the votes and the loser gracefully accepting the demonstrated will of the voters. Not by changing the rules once a week, not by declaring the rules agreed upon in writing inoperative, and not by making racially inspired and unprovable statement about what may or may not happen at the next level. If there is a metric that makes a candidate "unelectable", it would be that the majority of the voters consider that candidate untrustworthy, and that is the one metric in which Hillary has an unassailable lead!
"...This week, John McCain gave a speech for the ages - the Dark Ages. "
This 'Slight is Co(R)(R)ect' as it were ... Apparently, you haven't 'lost your bearing', Ms Huff
Snerd
Hillary won't go until FL and MI are sorted out.
Its interesting how the HP has so little to say about the democratic voters in MI and FL being forgotten by the Dem leadership that wants the primary over at the expense of true democracy. The HP is a biased mouthpiece for the Obama camp, another agent for his dirty work so he can maintain his image as Mr. Clean.
The HP is staying clear of all issues negative to Obama
Why he won't explain why he stayed with a racist pastor for 20 years
His shady dealings with Tony Rezko and Robert Blackwell
His many co-apperances at social and political events with William Ayers
His 2005, 2006 earmarks
Why he described his white grandmother as a "typical white woman"
Why he never goes beyond his "unity and change" rhetoric for the most part
Why he will sit down with Ahmadinejad a priori
Unfortunately you have to visit with Hannity on FOX to get discussion of the above matters.
Sean Hannity hasn't discussed HIS OLD FRIEND the NEO NAZI.
HE HAS A LONG FRIENDSHIP WITH Hal Turner the NEO NAZI.
Why don't you visit him on THIS ISSUE?
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20050620/blumenthal/2
Hannity being a part of FOX which, by the way, actually IS a mouthpiece - for Republicans.
They receive memos every morning of Republican talking points.
Don't believe me? Go see the actual documents for yourself:

Folks like you only remind the rest of us of what we're fighting, which only strengthens support for Barack Obama. Keep up the good work. Seriously.
As far as MI and FL are concerned, it's unfortunate, but if the game is not played by the rules then anarchy rules. And if we want to dig up dirt, nothing's dirtier than the fact that the Clintons have already been impeached once. Why on earth would any honest person want to put proven liars and cheaters back in the White House?
There *are* no results in Michigan and Florida *to* count. Hillary was pretty much the only one on the ballot, and everyone knew their votes *couldn't count by election rules, and Obama and Edwards supporters couldn't even *write in* our candidates.
The results can hardly be considered representative.
(Moving up the primary was the Republicans' idea, anyway, people forget, and stretching this primary out is in *their* interest , not ours.
Yeah, stupid rules over democracy.
Obama says he was not on the ballot in MI like some external evil force kept him off the ballot.
OBAMA HIMSELF REMOVED HIS NAME FROM THE BALLOT BECAUSE HE KNEW HE WOULD NOT DO WELL. HE SAW THE OPPORTUNITY TO KEEP A POOR RESULT FOR HIMSELF OUT OF THE DELEGATE TALLY. MICHIGAN OVERALL CAN'T STAND OBAMA ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS CLEAR HE WANTS THEIR VOICE SUPPRESSED. THIS IS NO DIFFEENT THAT BUSH WITH FL IN 2000. NO DIFFERENT. ITS ALL ABOUT WINNING, THE HECK WITH DEMOCRACY. OBAMA IS TOTALLY FOS REGARDING MI AND FL.
YOU OBAMA SUPPORTERS ARE DISINGENUOUS WHEN YOU SAY THE SITUATION IS "UNFORTUNATE". THE GOOD PEOPLE OF MI AND FL SEE THIS, THEY DON'T BLINDLY FOLLOW OBAMA LIKE YOU DO.
