House GOP: Can it Get Any Worse
Since losing 30 seats and their 12-year stranglehold on power in 2006, House Republicans have kept asking themselves the same question: Can it get any worse?
On Tuesday, they may get another answer they won't like.

The retarded codpieceboy was right" He is a uniter, after all.
The GOP couldn't be more deserving. "You reap what you sow." I am delighted that finally "karma" is working its magic.
"House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) has tried to sell his troops on an Obama-like message of "change" as their only hope for success. "
So, the Rethugs think they can just say "change" and that will do the trick. Change what, I would ask? They can't answer that because, truth be known, they really don't think they need to change anything. They deliberately created the mess we're in and they like things just the way they are. The American people are onto them. Finally.
Exactly. When re-election time comes around they will get off their behind and promise, promise,
promise. They know they are in the wrong but will do everything to exploit the masses in the
meantime and enrich themselves. Then they will get a conscience for a few months fooling some
people! But we have to stay on top of it and we will not forget how they had exploited us. Sitting
on their behinds while the hedge funds and the trading of the future's market is raping the average
American. And why is it possible, that if we work for the government we have to sign agreements
that we cannot go to work for a contractor who we had done business with, why can congress
do what we are not allowed. This really stinks! They are all self-serving.
" Our starting point is not the individual: We do not subscribe to the view that one should feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, or clothe the naked ¦ Our objectives are different: We must have a healthy people in order to prevail in the world."
GOP or Joseph Goebbels?
Can you tell the difference?
One definitely hopes so.
An electoral purge so comprehensive and violent that the RP goes the way of the Whigs.
More and more Republican state legislators are attempting to make it more difficult for citizens to register to vote. I read an article in this morning's NY Times on exactly this subject where Missouri is considering requiring a copy of an original birth certificate as proof of citizenship before a person can be registered to vote. This of course makes it much more difficult for the huge number of citizens at the bottom of the economic spectrum to register to vote. This is an outrage but so typical of the Republican mentality. They will do whatever it takes to keep their stranglehold on the reins of power. They will not go easily into the night.
not enough of them are in jail yet to be really worried. after you screw your opponents and then screw your supporters things like this happen. 60 yrs from now the evangelicals can get sucked in again and used like the toilet paper karl rove thinks they are. tom delay suggested killing supreme court judges he didn't like, the grinch invented the abramov scandal, chenney's fear of impotence launched iraq, the average iq at doj has receded to the level of a retarded ameoba, and all the one who lose their elections will follow trent lott's sleazy greed to k street. i'm waiting for the blanket pardon.........
There should be no surprise considering they couldn't even have the guts to go against their king on things like child healthcare benefits or minimum wage. You reap what you sow...bye bye fat pasty white men...
Could it get worse for Washington in general? There isn't a single sane voice on either side and what really needs to be done is boot out the lifers and bring in people that aren't of touch with reality. You have to really suck at your job to lose to Bush in anything.
An April 25-29 New York Times/CBS News survey found approval ratings for Congress were just 21 percent, while Bush's were at 28 percent.
That's because more people wish Bush were impeached already, than approve of his performance. The biggest joke is Conyers' pitiful claim that impeachment would generate sympathy for Bush. It might generate sympathy for Congress.
I'm gonna miss these guys...we ought to send 'em a nice fruit basket...
Just don't mark it "Rush."
I enjoy the dry humor, thanks!
And it wasn't all that long ago the airwaves were choked with mouthbreathing party undits crowing about a new America and a permanent majority.
Hah!
They'll be lucky to be represented at all after a couple more election cycles.
I'm pretty sure once the Democrats install socialism to America there will be a swift kick back and some real conservatives will emerge, not like the jokers in the GOP now.
I just glanced at your profile. Are the Republicans paying you by the word?
It is always the posters who give themselves names like "Unbias" who exemplify the qualities most opposed to their monikers.
The idea that wimpy centrists like Obama or Clinton are going to 'install socialism' is silliest thing i've heard since well the last silly thing you said Unbias. Besides can you point me to any actual Democrats who are socialists?
And by socialist I mean 'State ownership of capital' not whatever fruitball definition they are using on Redstate this week.
Agreed. It may take 8 years, though.
The odd thing is, liberals thought they won in 2006 when the Democrats took control in both houses. But many of these "Blue Dogs" were running on conservative platforms.
I have no problem with conservative Democrats and could easily vote for them as long as the Republicans that we have continue to govern and behave selfishly.
Since so called conservative dems are just Repubilican lite why vote for them either? Sounds to me you like the Republican policies but don't like the fact that people are sick of Republicans.
Congressional seats are just the start ...we need to also have a Democratic president choose the next couple of Supreme Court justice vacancies...very key...
"This is the second special election this month in which House Republicans have tried to turn the race into a referendum on a Democratic candidate's ties to Obama. The strategy was unsuccessful in Louisiana, but Republicans view the Mississippi district as more receptive because it is slightly more conservative and has fewer African American voters."
The shear coldness of that statement has me dumbfounded. That is one reason I am a Democrat, I want to do well but I also want everyone else to do well too.
Well said. It also explains why so many white Southerners are Republicans. They want to compare themselves to others who are doing so much worse.
They want to be the man, and hold the poor whites and uppity-other-colors down. They jumped from the Ds to the Rs at the time of civil rights legislation, they preferred the South Jim Crow. Mississippi Burning was quite to their liking. Today it may not be so overt, but it's still there from the chat I had with a middle-aged white Texas woman the other day.
"At that point, everybody's got to come together and have a come-to-Jesus meeting," said Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.)
Not only do I have a problem with the non-separation of church and state, these idiots think Jesus will be there. They deserve to be afraid of all clear thinking people.
Here's the definition, and it has little to do with religion:
Come To Jesus Meeting:
A time when a polite ultimatum is given, generally followed by a less polite ulitimatum, then a threat. Drug and alcohol "interventions" are often refered to as "Come to Jesus Meetings".

Wait until November, Republican cretins. The special elections are only the beginning.
Beginning of what higher taxes? Liberals complaining because there won't be a universal health care plan ever put in place?
Single payer health care with universal coverage will be cheaper than what we have now. Eliminate the profit skimmed off by private sector insurance, it isn't needed. Health insurance is not one of those products which is improved by competition.
As opposed to the Republican financial strategy of putting America in debt to China and Saudi Arabia with no means to pay it off in short enough times so that they would actually pay for anything, instead leaving it to our children and grand children to pay off, with interest.
The Republicans are turning America into an indentured servant for the rest of the world. Good job at selling and selling out the United States. You did what 230 years of empires couldn't do.
How about a complete reversal of philosophy. One that revitalizes the middle and working class, the veritable foundation of this once successful democracy. How about re-investing in our youth, before they're all used up as cannon fodder. How about putting some real investment into really finding alternatives to our "transportation/energy situation instead of the Republican corporate giveaway shell game now going on. How about a real authentic dialogue as opposed to failed Republican talking points. How about it huh!
Sounds great, that's not the reality but sounds great.
Greg Davis looks like another inbred Rethug operative. Doubtful that he will make a rational stand. I truly believe we are beginning the year of the reality based community. They can lie, but they will not be believed. Hope springs eternal.
Don't judge a man by one photograph.
What else would a reasonable human being expect. Of course it will get worse, lots worse. Human beings all over the geographic and I might add, political map have been awakened from this 8 going on 23 year nightmare. Republicans can prop up all the "new" faces it can find but until they dis own the neo-conservative, "trickle down" corporate welfare philosophy and the over bloated military/industrial complex that exists for all to see now, at the expense of the people who actually produce, not only the goods and services but the communities, towns and citys that are the underpinning of this economic/political system.
As I said 6 months ago, the Republican party is like a walking dead man. Their fate was sealed with this unjustifiable war. That was the earthquake that spawned the tsunami which is about to sweep the party away. Their arrogance and hubris not withstanding.
8 going on 23 year nightmare? What world are you living in?
Here are all of the great things that have been invented and distributed in the last 23 years:
The internet
Cell phones
LCD plasma screens (DLP)
DNA testing
GPS tracking
Cloning
Viagra
MP3 player
email
Not to mention the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Cold War, the stock market quadrupled, the Million Man march and so many others...too many to count.
Yet you say we are in the midst of a 23yr nightmare. Ya know...maybe you have the perception problem. Maybe the world is just fine.
Not all of the things you listed were invented during the past 23 years and some that I list below are not completely gone, but maybe deserve some consideration.
Free conversations on the telephone
The right to know what you have been charged with when arrested
Affordable healthcare
Pensions
Affordable housing (less than 33% of net income)
No citizens being killed in war
No foreign terrorism in the US
Cheap gas
Valuable Dollar
If having a hard on is more important that your freedom, then you win.
What does that have to do with what we are talking about? Besides, the stock market
may have tripled but only in numbers for the dollar is not worth anything anymore.
Companies and retirement can no longer be mentioned in one sentence. And pretty
soon your money for the items you listed will have to go into the gas tank so you
can go to work.
"Maybe the world is just fine."
hows the view from inside your a*s, wingnut?
"For House GOP... Can it Get Any Worse?"
Hopefully !
