Another superdelegate has endorsed Obama this morning: Rep. Tom Allen of Maine. The press release is below.

UPDATE: Two more superdelegates, Hawaii Sen. Daniel Akaka and Hawaii DNC member Dolly Strazar, have also endorsed Obama today.

UPDATE: Another superdelegate, this one Idaho Democratic Party Chairman Keith Roark.

Congressman and U.S. Senate candidate Tom Allen today pledged his support to Senator Barack Obama. Allen made his announcement during a 10:30 a.m. press conference at his campaign headquarters here.

Allen said he believes that both Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton are "supremely qualified to be president."

"I have been friends for a very long time with former President Clinton and Senator Clinton. I respect their service to our nation. Hillary Clinton has run a vigorous campaign and has attracted a passionate following in Maine and around the country. She loves this country and is a true leader. For her service, I am grateful," he said.

"Most of the primary voters across the nation have now spoken. It is time to bring a graceful end to the primary campaign. We now need to unify the Democratic Party and focus on electing Senator Obama and a working majority in the United States Senate. That is how we can change the direction of the country.

"I am running for the U.S. Senate because I believe Maine should lead the change this country needs. I share important priorities with Barack Obama: universal health care, reining in gas and food prices, greater independence from foreign oil, bringing our troops safely home from Iraq, creating jobs and strengthening the middle class."

Allen said Obama is the embodiment of change for Maine and America.

"In February I watched a new generation of Mainers become involved in our nominating process because they were energized and hopeful about the future. I watched Independents and Democrats - and even a lot of Republicans -- in Maine enthusiastically support Barack Obama because they believe he can and will put America back on track," he said.

Obama won Maine's Democratic caucuses in February. His candidacy helped drive record turnout of some 45,000 participants.

Senator Obama said Maine needs Tom Allen in the U.S. Senate for the change we need. Obama's full statement:

"Tom Allen understands the challenges this country is facing, and no one has worked harder to solve them. He knows that if we're going to bring about the change this country needs, we're going to have to change the way Washington works. That's why he's never been afraid to stand up to the special interests and demand accountability from our leaders.

"Like me, Tom opposed the war in Iraq from the start, and he's been a tireless advocate for ending the war and reshaping our foreign policy to truly make this country safer and more respected. He's fought for tax cuts for the middle class, health care for all, and a return to fiscal responsibility -- something this President and his allies in the Senate seem to have forgotten about completely.

"I've had the opportunity to meet voters from every corner of Maine, and they have spoken with one voice about the need for real change. There's no question that Tom's record of service, his tenacity, and his judgment will make him an excellent Senator. I'm thrilled to be working alongside him in this critical election, and I look forward to working with him as President."

Look for him to announce Jim Webb for VP when all the dust settles. I haven't missed a prediction yet.
Nailed it by saying he would have 25 supers in a week after NC/IA. Predicted this thing was over and done done in February. CNN never calls me for some reason. The "experts" they pick as TV pundits are always wrong. Maybe thats why they pick them.

I'm not thinking it's going to be Webb. He's too green, speaks too quickly too often and without sufficient thought, and has no experience to bank on. I like Webb but I don't see him as a positive on the ticket.

So his experience as Secretary of the Navy doesn't count.

So put me out of my misery. Who's going to win in November?

State Party Chairs are big deals. Most of them are uncomitted at this point. The fact that Idaho Party Chair endorsed Obama, that is a new phenomenon. He brings an add-on delegate with him. He is the guy who would nominated the add-on delegate.

In California, Party Chair Art Torres gets 5 add-ons. Fortunately he is splitting them 3-2 for Clinton. If he wanted he could have given her all 5.

In the add-on delegate battle, Obama is leading 16-10 at this point. There are 43 more add-ons coming in future. It seems to be that Obama would get big Majorities of those. Some of the States where Super Delegates have gone pretty much 100% for Obama, have 4-5 add ons. Other Add-ons are from States Obama carried overwhelmingly.

As of now, if you take Obama's own website's totals, Hillary would need 83% of the remaining uncommitted Super Delegates.

It would be nice if the long-rumored flood of super dels declared tomorrow night after the WV polls close to mitigate what will likely be an ass-kicking by Hillary in that state. Nothing to change the media narrative from an expected Hillary landslide to Obama claiming a huge number of supers.

Come on supers, if you want to support Obama, tomorrow night is the time to declare en masse your intentions!

Great news, I would like to see some of the very early declarers switch to Obama. Hillary -1,
Obama +1. In my state of WA our two senators Murray and Cantwell went for Hillary, while
our governor Christine Gregoire went for Obama. I do hope Murray and Cantwell will
reconsider. Keep your eye on our governor, she is a very impressive lady.

Gregoire rocks. As for Murray, I have actually never cared for her. She does very little for our state. Where the hell has she been on LNG? The jury is still out on Maria, but there is one interesting note: She basically already has switched to Obama. She said in April that whoever leads in the pledged delegates will get her vote. Back then, as now, that means Obama. So she just hasn't made it official, and HRC is still counting Cantwell in her column.

I wrote Cantwell and Murray letters last week expressing my disgust that they promised their vote to Clinton before the primary season even began (which is totally inappropriate), and asking them to now revoke it based on the misogyny of the Clinton campaign leading up to last Tuesday ("cojones," "testicular fortitude," etc.).

I expect to get not even an acknowledgement in return.

I remember Murray's campaign slogan from the 90's...A mom in tennis shoes or running shoes, back when we all wore tennis shoes to work with our skirts, then changed into our pumps once at the office. I have called both Senators Murray and Cantwell 3 times, very politely asking why they support Clinton when Obama won WA 3 to 1. I always got transferred to some voice mail and left by name and phone number, but of course, neither Senator's office called me back. I like the fact Gregoire and Senator Adam Smith came out with their support of Senator Obama before our state caucuses. If Canwell has switched from Clinton to Obama, she needs to come out and say so. I plan on remembering that Maria and Patti both endorsed Clinton with no fanfare or reason even though we; their constituents went through the caucus process and voted overwhelmingly for OBama.

Patty and Hillary are close colleagues, so I think it is hard for her to change her vote. But her first consideration has to be for the people of Washington State, who have voted their preference. She needs to go with Obama.

I really like Patty Murray. She voted against the war in Iraq and was given a lot of grief about it. It was courageous of her. I have called her office and also Cantwell's. I hope they will reconsider. I do like both of them. I think Christine Gregoire has been an absolutely great governor. These are three strong women. They run as women, not as women who have male attributes. They do not demonize their opponents. They are not whiners. They just run direct and clean campaigns. I respect them tremendously.

There are so many acronyms out there, that I'm missing your reference to LNG,
which to me has always stood for (Liquefied Natural Gas). As for Hillary I think
all the remarks about testicular fortitude have gone to her head, Can you imagine
a more horrible sight than Hillary in a pants suit, sporting an enormous codpiece.

It would be great if enough SD came out for Obama that one of the remaining states that he is favored to win in the Primaries would actually put him over the top. This way it would be the people of a state and not the SD that would have actually made him the Presumptive Nominee.

Isn't that called American Pride. Isn't that what Michelle Obama said, the first time in her life she felt proud to be an American?

I can proudly say this is the 2nd time in my life I am proud to be an American. Even though I was not of voting age to vote for JFK, I was just as proud he became our President.

Count me in as being proud!!!

going2ireland, madball - this is precisely what she was talking about.

A lot of people shot her down for it, but you know, I think those people might not know this level of pride. It's a deep thing, a true sense that the country has become and is becoming something great.

It's a mixture of hope and true, deep love for the country. The feeling and the willingness to do something good for your fellow Americans.

I can honestly say that even though I wasn't an anti-American hater, that I did not truly become a patriot until this year, until Barack Obama, until reading about his life. Not only reading about his life, but reading the way others were affected. Even reading racist comments and hateful negativity. It all made me really think about my country in a way that I hadn't before. It made me realize all that I was taking for granted, and all that I wanted to change.

And now I have real pride. The kind of pride that's a lot like when my kid does something great. THAT kind of pride.

Obama '08! Yes. We. Can.

If Clinton doesn,t mind being humiliated on a daily basis she should continue to conduct this charade that she calls a campaign. It's time to stop the embarrasment and get behind Obama as the next President. The Clintons could be very helpful to Obama this fall if they can put country and Party ahead of themselves and really help bring dramatic change to this country. This will restore their legacy and might even help to propel Hillary to some greater role for herself in Government in the future. She is one in 100 now as a Senator but she could be a one and only in some future job.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:46 PM on 05/12/2008

very true, her campaign at this point should be party not hillary oriented - i can not imagine what purpose she has to continue to campaign against Obama - i do understand her desire and purpose to continue to campaign and stay in the race for both political and financial realities - but NOT in a way that is against Obama as if there is still a primary race

Simple! She is looking at 2012! She is hoping Obama will lose in November... this is all about Hillary and the Influence that has already been paid for in the form of hundreds of Millions to the Clinton Library Fund by foreign interest! $100M in speeches, yeah right!

I don't think 2012 or 2016 will she even be able to win. She has destroyed any vestige of honor, respectability and decency she had. It is gone. I am not sure if she will even have her Senate seat to return to.

I would like to hear from NYers as to how they feel about Hillary. Do they still want her as their Senator?

This trickle of SDs coming over to Obama must be like water torture for Clinton, but it is no surprise. Less than three weeks and counting...............have it your way, Clintons, it won't make any difference. However many of your supporters who do the stupid thing and vote for McCain, we will register 10 times the number of new voter registrants and overwhelm you.

And for all you Republicans who have nothing better to do, understandably, than to come here and spew your racial bigotry, read this article from one of the most respected conservatives, and weep.

It's going to be a long summer and fall for Clinton and McCain.

I'm an Obama supporter and I don't think its right to call all of HRC's supporters racist. I have a few in my office who choose her as their candidate. They chose her because of her policies and political history. With that said, despite the anger now, I don't know too many HRC supporters who would be willing to vote against a woman's right to choose in November.

Lets not fan the flames for these supporters by continuing to insult them. Save it for McCain.

Except that Hillary's comments of a few days ago were racist. We can't allow it to stand as democrats. African Americans are the party's most loyal constituency, we would not have had any democratic presidents since LBJ without African American votes. I am all for unity but not at the cost of papering over her disrespect.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:50 PM on 05/12/2008

No one said her comments weren't racists. What I said was that all of her supporters are not. Some of them may be. Some of Obama's supporters may be. To group all of any candidates supporters into one category without evidence is just silly. I'm not saying don't challenge her comments, I say don't insult her supporters for believing in her policies.

When Obama was going through things with Rev. Wright, we were accused of being racist for supporting him. That wasn't true either.
