Barack Obama, who labeled discussion of whether he wears a flag pin in his lapel a false issue in a debate with Hillary Clinton, was wearing one Monday as he campaigned in West Virginia ahead of Tuesday's primary vote there.

Obama made no reference to the pin, which could be clearly seen in television images and through telephoto lenses as he spoke in Charleston, W. Va., about veterans issue. There was no public comment from his campaign.

oh boy stop the presses Obama had a flag pin on!! What a joke. Oh by the way where is Hillary's and McCain's flag pin? Oh that's right, it's only Obama who is unpatriotic

Obama is, after all, a chameleon.....smug narcissist!!!

The fact that flag pins are even discussed as something important strikes me as what a bunch of boloney the election thing is..

I'm wearing two flag pins to be twice as patriotic.

Senator Barack Obama wears a flag lapel pin to make a speech to Veterans. Senator Barack Obama makes an Anti-War speech to an Anti-War group. The Anti-War speech helps him defeat his opponent for the Democratic nomination. The lapel pin gets him votes in WV primary.
Politics as usual. Anything to win. Long live the King, Obama.

Yeah, anything to win, like the gas tax holiday that would cost thousands of jobs and postpone work on our infrastructure.

This guy wears pins when they are given to him. Believe me, the people that came to hear him speak did not do so because of a lapel pin. They did because of his work in the Senate on behalf of veterans.

Don't worry, he'll lose WV. But, I'm glad he was honest with them and didn't bash Hillary.

I was really glad that Barack Obama was endorsed by Tom Hanks, because he starred in my absolute favorite movie of all time, The Polar Express. I think that he also produced it.

In the movie, Tom Hanks plays the conductor on the train that goes to the North Pole and he punches the tickets really fast with words like "HOPE" and "CHANGE" and... best of all... "BELIEVE."

The little boy who gets on the train and isn't really sure that he believes in Santa Claus, but then he is selected to receive the first-gift-of-Christmas and he gets this sleigh bell that you can only hear if you really believe in Santa. So, of course, none of the adults can hear it.

That bell is like the perfect symbol for Barack Obama. None of the young people can understand why all the old people can't hear the bell. It's because they don't BELIEVE because they are TOO OLD!

Tom Hanks also starred in Forrest Gump, so I know that he can identify with poor white people who are not too educated. Forrest is barely one step above retarded and even though he has no education, he turns out to be one of the most successful people in America. I realize that sounds more like a Republican story than a Democrat one, but even so, Hanks didn't endorse John McCain. He endorsed Barack Obama.

Obama normally wears the flag pin when speaking before veterans, so why is HuffPo making this an issue?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:01 AM on 05/13/2008

Because it's a story when he wears one. .....oh my, it seems to be a story when he doesn't wear one. OK.....can someone please explain why this is an issue........ever? Come on Huffpo, please rise above the media BS.

...pollster and former Bill Clinton adviser Douglas Schoen wrote in an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal that Obama needs to better define his values heading into the general election. "First, and obviously symbolically, he must start wearing the flag lapel pin," Schoen wrote. "He simply cannot afford to raise doubts about his patriotism."

I wouldn't trust this idiot to take out the garbage. And Clinton wonders why she's losing. I swear, she'd do better if she got her advice directly from the lapel pin.

and that is why Obama is or is not wearing a lapel pin. it's the hypocrite, stupid. That's why when he gives a speech he's surrounded by flags, flags and more flags.

Doug Schoen needs to have a million sharp Flag Pins permanently attached to his body!

I think I read in an article somewhere that he takes at least a day off a week or something for a "date night" with his wife and also a "family day".

Not only is he getting some..he's expeditious about it. ITS SCHEDULED. Good to know he's makes it a point to put important issues on his calendar LOL.

I'm cackling that this is a topic...or that I posted about ...but woo hoo for Obama.

Obama was at a veteran event. He wears a pin at those events to honor the vets. Got a problem with that?

exactly! he's been pretty clear about this.

does he need to send out a press release each and every time/

let it go people

He's going to get his ass handed to him tomorrow and the flag pin doesn't work when you don't do it before the primaries and only after you've been chastised for not wearing it and talking tough with mittens about Iraq.

Ughh - HuffPo - love you guys, really I do, but seriously, this is NOT NEWS!
Damn the media gets such a woody from talking about this man and his wearing and not wearing a friggin' flag pin. Is it really THAT serious?

Angst over - I digress. Just sayin' - can we stop beating this dead horse already my heavens

I view wearing of the lapel flag pin as a symbol of Conservative Right Wing support of the Iraq War, just as I viewed the sewing of the U.S. flag into the seat of one's pants by the Liberal Left Wing in protesting the Viet-Nam War during the late 60's. As a moderate Democrat, I will not nor have not done either. I do not have a yellow ribbon magnet on my car nor do I display any type of bumper stickers. Instead, I contribute money to Veteran's groups to do what our broken Government will not do. I served my Country in the Military. I feel that these actions prove to myself that I am a patriot and I don't need to prove it by displaying cheap symbols.
Senator Barack Obama has reverted to pandering for political gain and should be held accountable for it.

"I view wearing of the lapel flag pin as a symbol of Conservative Right Wing support of the Iraq War"

This view is uniquely yours. Is it fair to project it onto every other Dem?

When O speaks to vets, he wears a pin given to him by a vet, out of respect.

He has said this before.

Can someone explain to me just when it was that the GOP took ownership of the American flag pin? I thought the American Flag, in pin , patch, tshirt, whatever form, was for all Americans? Just more proof that Rethugs want to divide and destroy, not unite.

His focus is moving to swing voters in swing states. Now he is running for the general election, he can ignore the far left base and move more to middle rhetoric. He is a politician, what do you expect ? Don't expect consistency or results. Expect rhetoric. Jeremiah Wright has also clearly made this point.

You get all this from a flag pin?

The Left gets as silly about this as the Right. He doesn't HAVE to wear it. He doesn't have to AVOID it.

It's just a pin.

Obama was delivering his speech to the Vets, so he was wearing it out of respect for them.

I do Admire him for Respecting our Vets.

Go Obama!

What's even more to be admired is him speaking out in support of the GI Bill. That means much more to our service men and women than a stupid pin.

Obama is probably wearing it out of respect for the person who gave it to him. That's why Obama is so admired.
