On right-winger Bill Bennett's radio show this morning, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) expressed his openess to bombing Iran, saying that there is "an appeal to it." Discussing the West Virginia primary results, Bennett praised what he claimed was Sen. Hillary Clinton's (D-NY) transformation into his "style" of politician, which he said is someone who "throws down a shot of liquor and bombs Iran."

Lieberman whole-heartedly endorsed the "appeal" of the hawkish caricature Bennett had created:

But we all know Joe will stay under the Dem. party umbrella so he can maintain his Chairmanship. What a shame for the people of Conn. this guy is all about Joe L.. and how he mess this country up. Oh well in 5 months we will run these thieves out of DC and he can get a real job..................................................Go Obama

Lieberman is an Israel firster and needs to move back to israe.
The Iran issue is 100% Israeli, Iran is no danger to the US. Make Israel adhere to the standards that it and the US want to impose on Iran. Israel refuses to sign the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty ,which Iran has done. Israel refuses to allow IAEA inspections of their nuke facilities, which Iran has done. Israel refuses to comply with any UN resolutions, which the US protects it from. This should be brought up everytime the word Iran is spoken.

America"s media silence about Israelis nuclear weapons and their lack of membership to the NPT while maintaining such harsh rhetoric with regard to Iran"s nuclear program, which is legally allowed to enrich uranium as a NPT member, is an example of the kind of outright double standard that the United States has been following in its foreign policy.

And we try to get Iran " an NPT member " to stop enriching uranium and expect not to sound outright hypocritical? Iran has every right to defend themselves against Israel. The IAEA in Israel ? The reaction would be spectacular and filled with claims of persecution and divine right.

It"s absurd the pretense that Israel stands as the pathetic guardian against the proliferation of nuclear weapons in the ME. Israel is the biggest bully, destabilizing, warmongering, belligerent aggressor there and needs to be dealt with before Tehran.

Thank God one one thing, Lieberman never became VP . But the price was high.

Can't someone...anyone...please...make Joe Lieberman shut the hell up and go away.

This man just makes me question my desire for peaceful resolution of a conflict that never should have been. I do not agree with the principles of Israel under Zionist leadership but I have always remained soft because of the innocents caught in between. The chess game that these manipulative Zionist continue to play with America has run it's course. Call me whatever name applies but I am sick of being twisted in the wind on Israels right to exist while it's leaders continue to promote the worst stereotypes of negotiating with it's citizens.

Is this man certifiably insane? There is "an appeal" to bombing a country, starting a war? Holy Christ, what does he think war is, a chessgame?

America doesn't attack countries that don't attack us. Or at least we didn't use to. We don't send our young men to fight and die because there's "an appeal" to it. We don't ruin our economy supporting such wars unless our very lives and liberty are at stake.

These old white guys running (ruining) our country these days should be in asylums, not office.

Lieberman. A man with genocide in his heart, who wears his heart on his sleeve for all to see.

It is time to let Israel stand on its own. They pick a fight and then expect the U.S. to clean up the mess. If Israel cannot get along with its neighbors or defend itself without our help, well, then maybe that nation should be assimilated by its neighbors in the same way it is attempting to encroach upon its 'brethren' palestinians. Enough war. Time to make peace.

Joe Lieberman has proven once again that he has no morals. Collective Punishment is something for dictators and madmen who don't really value human life. It is something that has bothered me about Zionists for a long time. Never Forget seems to be a one way street. What is going on in Gaza right now isn't defensible morally. Yet to Zionists it's all ok. The cognitive dissonance makes my head hurt. When Hillary made that statement my heart sunk. I once thought she was something that it obvious she's not. I proved to me what I had thought previously that she wasn't qualified to be president. To be president especially after Bush one should be first a reasonable person and a moral person, now I have to doubt Senator Clinton on both counts.

United States and Israel twist, stretch and dye the truth to achieve their goals at the expense of their people and world victims. These two states have twisted and warped every human principle; they have turned the entire planet into rivers of blood. Millions of mothers grieve before they sleep; millions of mothers wish they had died before they lost their loved ones. These two states are actually hurting their people far more than they are hurting their victims. These two states may have murdered several millions in the last five decades, but their people will have to live with a tremendous amount of guilt and shame for many centuries to come

Cui Bono, Who's interest is lieberman really serving in his quest to bomb Iran? I really don't think it is that of the United States, since we are doing so miserably in Iraq and Afghanistan. I really think lieberman should be called on his desire to bomb Iran and sacrifice even more of our soldiers in the Mid East forwho's benefit. If they do decide to bomb Iran Billary Strangelove should play the part of Slim Pickens to the end.

Lieberman was responding to Bennet's description of Clinton as a redneck, barroom brawler. Lieberman's "it does have an appeal to it" is not specifically about bombing Iran.

Brilliant idea Joe. Iraq has been such a rousing success let's expand the franchise to Iran.

How this Right Wing Nut Job started out in the Democratic party is beyond me. Maybe it was because the Republican's don't let his kind into their country clubs.

It really is pathetic to see someone who claims to support Israel advocate the sort of Texas Red Neck policies that escallate tension and danger in the Middle East.

When are we going to get some grownups in Washington.

William Bennett: self-described moral arbiter, with gambling problem, and PNAC member.

And this exchange on his show:

CALLER: I noticed the national media... talk[s] a lot about the loss of revenue... to fund Social Security, and I was curious, ... [whether] the abortions that have happened since Roe v. Wade [and] the lost revenue from the people who have been aborted in the last 30-something years could fund Social Security as we know it today...
BENNETT: Assuming they're all productive citizens?
CALLER: ...Even if only a portion of them were, it would be an enormous amount of revenue.
BENNETT: Maybe,...but we don't know what the costs would be, too. I think []abortion disproportionately occur[s] among single women? No?
CALLER: I don't know the exact statistics, but quite a bit are, yeah.
BENNETT: ...I would not argue for the pro-life position based on this... [I]t cuts both [ways]"you know. One of the arguments in this book Freakonomics that they make is... that one of the reasons crime is down is that abortion is up. Well-
CALLER: -Well, I don't think that statistic is accurate.
BENNETT: Well, I don't think it is either,... But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could ... abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do... So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky.

What is most striking is that most of the Prohibited Views are held by the majority of the American public, which believes (.pdf), for instance, that the U.S. should withhold aid to Israel if it resists American pressure to resolve the Palestinian dispute (65%) and that the U.S. should not favor either side in the conflict (73%). As Pew's Andrew Kohut put it after surveying polling data: "average Americans see shades of gray in the Middle East conflict, and their sympathies notwithstanding, they favor a neutral role for the United States" (h/t M&W). Ample polling data from recent years supports similar conclusions about public opinion on these issues.

Yet no politician dares to express these majoritarian views. Right-wing neocons with clearly fringe views have succeeded in making the mainstream views -- the ones held by most Americans -- off-limits to mainstream political leaders, upon pain of being subjected to the sorts of toxic "anti-Israel" accusations of the kind now being baselessly directed at Obama.

This likunic zionitwit fraudster is insane..

Back then, telling Israel that "the welfare and best interests of our own country were to be the sole criteria on which we operated" -- and that "we would handle our affairs exactly as though we didn't have a Jew in America" -- was likely an uncontroversial sentiment. Today, if an American politician said anything remotely like that -- that when formulating foreign policy in the Middle East, American interests would take precedence over Israel's -- how many seconds would elapse before the full-scale and permanent destruction of their political career was complete?

As we began to uncover evidence that something was building up in Israel, we demanded pledges from Ben-Gurion that he would keep the peace. We realized that he might think he could take advantage of this country because of the approaching election and because of the importance that so many politicians in the past have attached to our Jewish vote. I gave strict orders to the State Department that they should inform Israel that we would handle our affairs exactly as though we didn't have a Jew in America. The welfare and best interests of our own country were to be the sole criteria on which we operated.

Dwight Eisenhower,
Of course, nothing in the region would be so difficult to solve except for the underlying cause of the unrest and dissension that exists there -- that is, the Arab-Israel quarrel. This quarrel seems to have no limit in either intensity or in scope. Everybody in the Moslem and Jewish worlds is affected by it. It is so intense that the second any action is taken against one Arab state, by an outsider, all the other Arab and Moslem states seem to regard it as a Jewish plot and react violently. All this complicates the situation enormously.

Lieberman has completely lost his mind. Between Bush and Lieberman, McCain has put himself between the Rock and the Hard spot. If you are known by the friends you keep, let the American people take note of McCain's friends.

He was joking about Hillary being appealling(which is disgusting and not funny). He was not joking about killing innocent people. Grow up people. HOW MANY OF YOU VOTED FOR HIM IN 2000? There are REAL issues to be angry and hateful about. You haters need to find another story because this is not it. This is a NON-story.
